What's new

Your top five soaps?

1. AoS Sandalwood (Tallow)
2. West Coast Shaving Gatsby*
3. MdC
4. RR Don Marco
5. PdP

*Quick note on this one because I think most have never tried it. I've never even placed an order with WCS. My fiancee knew that I was into wetshaving, and she bought me a sample pack from them. Far and away, the best performer of the bunch for me was their Gatsby (barbershop) scent, AND it's the soap she picked out ahead of time as her favorite scent! Then she bought me a tub and the AS for Christmas. If I had to compare its performance to other soaps, the closest to it that I've used are the RR soft soaps like my much beloved Don Marco. It's very easy to lather, and provides perfect cushion and glide.

But AoS tallow is still my #1. As soon as I run out of my last puck, I'm going to try Czech and Speake and hope it's as good!

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm curious to see people's response after a few years have gone by.

As of now my top 5 in no particular order:
Tabac
Stirling
Midnight & Two
Haslinger
Sudsy Soapery

Gotta update the list:

-Noble Otter
-Wholly Kaw
-B&M Reserve
-Sudsy Soapery
-Declaration Grooming

Honorable mentions:
-Oleo
-WSP Olympus Formula T
-Midnight & Two

Tabac
Captains Choice
Route 66
Taylor Of Old Bond Street
Stirling
MWF
I know you asked for the top 5, but I couldn’t drop one off of the list. I like them all pretty equal for different reasons. If I was forced to pick just one, I would flip a coin to see if it was Tabac or Route 66. The Route 66 is starting to get a lot of use as of late. It’s a spectacular soap that doesn’t seem to get much notice here. This is a-shame as it’s right on par or above several of the more commonly mentioned soaps.

SV (I love all the scents)
T&H 1805
Catie's Bubbles Gardenia
D R Harris Windsor
GFT Violet

I'm glad to see this thread resurrected, because I have made a few changes:

(in no particular order)
1. Cyril Salter's Solid Shaving Soap (new Tallow formula)
2. Tabac
3. Mike's
4. Art of Shaving (discontinued tallow formula)
5. Strop Shoppe

It is not a coincidence that all of the above are tallow-based.

Not in any particular order, here are my five favorites:

  1. Arko
  2. Tabac
  3. Mitchell's Wool Fat
  4. Haslinger Schafmilch
  5. Santa Maria Novella
Tim

Always fun having this thread around.. fwiw I do not have a massive number of soaps that I've evaluated, probably less than two dozen.

Saponificio Varesino, Flying Mango
Mystic Water, Irish Traveler
Haslinger, schafmilch
Speick
Mike's, Lily of the Valley

1. L'Occitane en Provence's Cade
2. Art of Shaving Sandalwood cream
3. Pacific Shave Co. Caffeinated
4. Pre de Provence
5. Van der Hagen Luxury

Start from the 12 o'clock position, at first place for now, and go clockwise. This is as of today - tomorrow I might just change my mind. The Fitjar there is Fjellheim. Great juniper scent, you Norwegian magicians!
