What's new

Your favorite Black Tie fragrance from Penhaligon's or Floris

What would you wear for a Black Tie event if you had to choose from the Penhaligon's or Floris range? How about a White Tie event? I know allmost every masculine scent that these two companies made but I don't really have a sense as to what should be worn when. For example, should I wear Elixir for day wear? I am not so certain.

I like Penhaligon's Opus 1870 for evening wear. I like it because of its strong woodsy notes. Having said that, my wife does not care for it. Therefore, it is no longer in my rotation.

Hm... I would probably choose English Fern over BB just because I have the matching (tallow) soap. Otherwise, it would be a coin flip.

I love the frags from both Pen's and Floris but for a black or white tie event I would choose Floris No 89 without a second thought. To me No 89 is just so classy and understated that the choice is a no-brainer.

I'm only familiar with Penhaligon's fragrances, so I would go with English Fern or Blenheim Bouquet.

In another thread someone said that Floris Special No. 127 is a white tie fragrance.

Fun question to think about. I do not know Floris Vetiver. I would say No. 89 or Special 127 would work. I am not fully sure why 127 was thought of as so much a white tie scent, I guess because it goes way back, and is dry and floral. I think Pens HB would work. Floral seems to appeal to me for formal.

BB and EF seem more business wear to me.

I am probably not the one to opine on this. I would also think that MPG Santal Noble would be perfect black tie stuff. But I have pretty much been wearing it in all situations!

HB, without a doubt.

Yeah, I said below "I think Pens HB would work." On reflection, I would say that HB would be my first choice. Better than No. 89 or Special No. 127. HB just seems more evening wear, sensual, and old school. 89 and 127 are more reserved. But I think "reserved" is for business. Full-fledged evening wear calls for something more showy, more relaxed, more the "good life"!

HB is really ideal.

Hammam Bouquet. 'Nuff said.

What they said. I can't believe I didn't think of that.
