What's new

Your every day carry?

Just thought I'd start a thread. I'm in the market to purchase a new pocket knife.

My wife bought me a Sodbuster American Workman by Case. I love this knife. Holds an edge well. But the darn thing is just too large to fit in my jeans pocket. I use it a bit if I'm doing yard work - cutting up twine, etc. But I'm not sure if it would be a good EDC because it is incredibly cumbersome.

I'm maybe looking at getting a smaller Opinel. Or maybe even a Svord Peasant. Thoughts?

I carry a case baby butterbean most days. Small and pocket friendly, but big enough to cut string, open parcels, etc which is all most city folk have to do each day. Opinels are nice, I have a couple, a bigger one and a little one is on my key chain, but the round handle isn't ideal if keeping it less cumbersome in the pocket is the goal.

my sodbuster jr is a great EDC. it could definitely use a sharpening but it's still up to its daily tasks while fitting the pocket and hand perfectly. highly recommended as an inexpensive option.

An Opinel No.7 has served me well for about a year (actually 2 of them; lost one). Sharpens nicely with automotive sandpaper on a soft backing... I don't abuse it too much, but I cut a lot of cardboard and strip a lot of cable jackets for work.

Most days, I carry a Spyderco Urban Wharncliffe clipped to my jeans pocket. I carry a Spyderco Pacific Salt (rust proof steel) clipped to my cycling shorts leg when I go mountain biking. I also have an older Spyderco Kiwi that was made in Seki City, Japan that I really like. That version is no longer made, however. The new model is, sadly, Chinese junk.

I have a Case Baby Butterbean and a couple other knives of similar size and weight that I carry as a dress knives, but I hardly ever wear a dress. The Gerber L.S.T. is a fantastic small, ultralight pocket folder. I pair the L.S.T. with a maroon Spyderco 1/2 serrated Goddard when I go backpacking.

I have several other folding knives, but like the OP, I find most of them too large to fit comfortably in a pocket. Most of those are US Schrade or Case knives, so they don't have a pocket clip. I should probably sell them, but they're so nice to look at!

It arrived and it's brilliant. The specs - 2.5 inch blade in Swedish high carbon tool steel, 6.75 inch total length, non-locking friction folder. The scales feel really solid and the blade seems to be able to take a pretty wicked edge, although the factory grind is very rough so it'll need some work, but you can't expect much for a £12 knife.I know friction folders have a bad rep as being unsafe, but this one's solid - the end of the tang sits right in the middle of your palm (I'm a big guy - 6 foot 2 so have big hands) so there's no way it'll slip and cut you if you've got a good grip. It can be made safer with a lanyard loop of sorts - see photos.

Normally I don't like such bright colours in knives, but I couldn't resist grabbing this in orange. I think it's available in wood in some places and a variety of different colours in plastic

I have a Kershaw Leek. This is my second one (first got lost/stolen). I also used a Gerber F.A.S.T. for a while. Sturdier (heavier) blade on that one, but one day the spring and lock open mechanism broke on it :( I really like the spring assist opening of this one. Cuts tape at work which is all I really need it for.

Where'd you order the peasant? In wanting to get one of those myself. And a douk douk. Look at the Japanese friction folders too. Great knives.
