Gym shorts/Bathing suit, etc. carry?

Hey all,

What's everyone's preferred carry when the clothes/pockets just don't hold up? I'm talking gym shorts, sweat pants, bathing suits...maybe even pajamas?

I normally go to the gym most days a week around 0300 or so. Retired LEO that spent way too much time on midnight shifts so insomnia hits hard. This is the only place I don't carry any type of CCW/EDC gear. I may need to re-think the idea. Noticed a few guys hanging around this morning who definitely weren't the gym types. Obviously a small flashlight will go in the pockets now. Going to try this old necker I wore at work for a few years to see if that'll hold up to running and cardio work. It's a cheap knife but fits securely in the sheath. Anybody got any other recommendations I can look at? What works for you?

I read a lot of the posts on the Spyderco forums. The forum members that are active working out, camping, biking, swimming, etc., like the Salt series of knives. Currently two of the steels Spyderco uses are impervious to corrosion, H1 and LC200N. They'll soon be adding MagnaCut steel and replacing H1 with H2 in the lineup. For the other parts of the knives that are made of metal, they'll use Titanium (clips) or coat the steel to make it more corrosion resistant. You searched for Salt - Spyderco - https://www.spyderco.com/?s=Salt

Most of the Salt series are made with fiber reinforced Nylon, (FRN,) so they're very light.

A couple of neck knives I have are the ARK (H1), ARK™ FRN Black - Spyderco, Inc. - https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/FB35BK/921 and the Subway Bowie, (LC200N) Subway Bowie™ - Spyderco, Inc. - https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/FB48BK/Subway-Bowie-trade-/2306

Thanks for the info and links. I have been talking knives with @SwamperWI and he's a big Spyderco guy. I have collected knives from my teenage years and have quite a bit but never went with a Spyderco. I'm originally from the beaches of Florida and the Salt series has always intrigued me. Maybe I need to re-visit those thoughts.

Most guys I know at the gyms always carry a sidearm in thier bags/oversized phannys or just keep in the locker depending what gym/club ones at. I prefer knuckles, that works for me and makes me feel good and at ease. Always in my bag and always within a few feet. Would you willingly charge a 280lb+ meathead rocking knuckles? My point exactly. Lol My training partner usually has his 45 and a particularly intimidating ASP in his bag and also keeps a lil P89 the truck. I would say do what works for you and makes you feel secure. PLEASE just be discreet as that/this sorta thing will make ALOT of people uncomfortable if they realized how many ppl carried at thier gyms. Best regards and I hope that little pig sticker makes ya feel safe and your able to get some awesome lifts in with peace of mind friend. 💪😎👍

I live half my life in athletic clothes. I carry a knife inside my waistband at 4'oclock, no matter what pants I'm wearing. The largest is a Manix 2 Lightweight. I've done pretty much everything except swim with them there, and never has it been obtrusive. I probably touch my waistband 20 times a day just to check because I don't even feel it there.

Just walk around with a dive knife over your Speedos like Honey Rider. Nobody will mess with you.

I still miss the dive knife I bought in high school (NJ) in the 1960s in NJ, when my cousin and I would snorkle and spearfish off a jetty at the Jersey shore. Sharp one side, serrated on the other. Nasty knife. I lent it to my cousin one day who took another friend on a day I couldn't make it. His friend tried to stab a fish and missed. He wound up in the hospital. Idiot. I took it to college in KY, back & forth back between NJ and KY after I married & then to Fl. I left it with my parents in FL when I moved to NJ in 1977. I still carry a knife, sometimes pocket, or a neck knife in winter, but miss that diver knife. That was a good one.

I like a guard or deep choil on my fixed blades. CRKT minimalists are good, small, grippy knives that it doesn't hurt to lose.
Minimalist

I like the Perrin Street Beat, because it's a good general utility blade.
