so this aristocrat http://cgi.ebay.com/Gillette-Gold-A...817?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f034cb6c1 has the knurling at the top and bottom of the handle like the 48-50s aristocrats, but is not notched like the 46-47 models. the case is for a 46-47. is it 46-47 or a 48-50. i'm guessing a 46-47 because the notches were introduced in 48 when gillette introduced the cream dispenser to pull the blade out over the notches.

Interesting. With that knurling usually there are notches, so maybe it's some transitional model made on the cusp of those dates.
The cream dispenser was introduced in 1947 (with the '47 SuperSpeed) and '48 with the Aristocrat. The razor is probably a 1947-48 transition model.

I had one like that a while back . . . sold it on eBay . . . and didn't realize until one of our members pointed out what he just bought!!!
I think there were quite a few "morphs" produced between '46 and '48 . . . probably justified by the post-war craze to produce products for sale to purchase-hungry citizens!!! May God bless the free enterprise system!!
you have a hybrid
it has the head of a 46 - 47 but the handle of the 48 -50. I saw no notches so the head or at least parts of the head are from 46 - 47. However it does have the knurling above and below like the 48 - 50 so does that make it worth more or less??
I think it´s a rare 1947 model. I´ve won one set this year, but unfortunately the package is lost 
so I´m still missing this set in my collection
