Wowee...Palmolive Stick

Just had a shave with my palmolive stick that I picked up in Kenya for around 3 bucks last year. What a wonderful soap. At the moment I like it more than my tabac and arko. It is probably about on par with proraso at the moment. It had the perfect balance between cushion and glide.

Why is it that some of these cheaper sticks give some of the greatest shaves? I have yet to try MdC or any really expensive soaps other than tabac (~$20) but man, these dollar shave sticks can sure perform. Had plenty for 4 passes with my 22 mm black badger whipped dog.

If you haven't tried this soap yet, give it a go. If you don't like it, it really isn't a big loss.

Cheers.

The European version of the Palmolive stick, I suppose? It is one of my favorite lathers. The scent is a bit pedestrian, but what do you expect for the price?

Huh, talk of coincidence.
I was just pondering the mediocre shaves I have gotten for the past 3 days using a Palmolive stick. I had no choice but to use it as it was all I had taken with me out of town for the weekend. Try as I may using a Semogue 620 (fine face lather brush) I got nothing but so-so lather that paled in comparison to my Arko and La Toja sticks. Probably wind up trading it for another Arko or similar Turkish stick?. Or I may try a few more goes using my trusty Omega or Vie Long Zurito, could make a difference I guess

My theory is that shave sticks are no brainers for loading as long as you have coarse and widespread stubble. It eliminates the variables about getting enough product loaded onto the brush and enough or not enough water in the brush. As long as you spread enough on your face with a shave stick, you will get a great lather!

I let my soap sit in water while I shower so that it softens up a bit then apply it generously to my face and to my brush, to ensure maximum soap lather. I then add water to the brush from the sink depending on how much more I need.

I wouldn't give up on this stick quite yet. You could even try grating it into a container for easier extraction. However, in the end, YMMV.

Like the_edski says, I have course and widespread stubble, so that could have to do with it too.

I picked up a palmolive stick from a local supermarket for £0.50 yesterday.

I did a test lather and it seems good, it didn't smell too bad either.

I regularly use both the soap and and the cream. The stick is 50p in the supermarket here in the UK and the cream only £1.80

I have to say that I prefer the soap stick but I've tended to prefer soaps at the moment - a croap I've just got is changing my mind though.

I have no problems with getting an excellent lather with the Palmolive soap stick and if I was told that was all I could shave with from now on I would probably sulk but I'd be more than happy to use it.

It is so nice to see the newbies finding joy in these products. Pass it along to the next generation. See, it does'nt have to be exspensive to be good.

Do you have a picture of the packaging still?

finally got a stick in a PIF and it is definitely NOT the same scent as the cream. I find the cream to have a very soapy smell. The stick has a hint of tobacco/pepper and is more cologne scented to me. The stick's performance is great though. Still, the scent is too much for me so I'll be putting it up on BST (with a bunch of other stuff) at the end of the month if anyone is interested.

As has been said a few hundred times here...it's really hard to beat Euro Palmolive and Arko. I have both of them shaved down and in containers and while I have other soaps and creams available; I find myself using Euro Palmolive, Arko, Tabac and MWF pretty much all the time. I probably need to get some Cella...that is apparently another "iconic" soap/cream that I need to try.

i picked up another one today in a green box this time, it looks like the packaging changed at some point, everything else seems the same. cant go wrong for 50p a stick!

Right, they would've had to remove the Stiftung Warentest badge on the packaging if they had changed the formula.
