What's new

Woo Hoo! Good day at the antique stores...

proxy.php

I drove about 45 minutes away from home today to pick up some free photography and darkroom supplies, and decided to stop at a couple antique stores that I've never been to. It turns out I got pretty lucky. I got a Rooney brush for $10, an Ever Ready badger brush for $10, a Gem Micromatic for $7.50, and a Gillette New Standard for $25. I'm not sure if I overpaid for the New Standard, but I liked it anyway so I got it. It's been a while since I've had a good day rummaging through the antiques stores, and it was nice to drive home with some new goodies.

Cool. I knew from the knurling pattern that it was worth a bit more than the average superspeed, but wasn't sure by how much. What I'm most curious about is how to tell what kind of badger is in this brush. It's really really soft.

Great finds! Those butterscotch Rooney brushes have a bit of a cult following here and on some other boards. I bet you'll have plenty of admirers for that little piece. Good job!

Excellent score, and that Standard is a great shave to boot.

Sweet looking Butterscoth there, you need to get over and post a pic of it in the Butterscoth Eye Candy thread.

I'll do that now. It's awesome that I found this. I've been using the free AOS brush since they did one of those giveaways last year, and before that was using a walmart boar brush. I've been wanting a quality brush, and have always loved the buttersctotch color. I couldn't afford the B&B brush this year, and I didn't quite like the handle shape. The shape of this brush is exactly the shape I wanted, so I ended up with everything I wanted in a brush, for dirt cheap.

Some people have all the luck. Great find though. Wish i was that lucky. By the time i ever find anything at the antiques i'd already spent $20 driving around... could have just bought it on fleebay.

Dang! Good finds. Love the Rooney and the New.

I'm very happy for you but feel oddly... well... oddly jealous.

One day my antiquing ship will come in. Sigh.

I've put in my time at these places. There have been so many times, especially lately, that I walk out empty handed swearing I won't waste my time looking anymore. Then I get home, and start thinking that there may be a nice camera or razor out there, and back I go another day looking around in them. It's part luck, and part determination to keep checking back. The two I went to today I had never been to, and apparently no other wet shavers had either :001_smile

Anyone else notice the usernames of the first two guys in this thread? Weird.

That's been popping up all day. Pretty funny reminder of one of the good old days. If only Springs1 could come here and talk about how we should all expect a waiter to behave when we stop for lunch after our awesome antique store find!

Congrats! Junk and antique stores are the best places to find stuff and it looks like you got an excellent haul!

I haven't been able to hit many stores around here - LA mostly has high-end antique shops. But I'll be hitting the midwest on vacation in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to tear through a few junk stores while driving around.
