Williams Shaving Cream

While in France last year I picked up some Williams Shaving Cream. The cream was inexpensive, less than $4 a tube. I put it away and forgot about it until today.

What a pleasant surprise. Made a terrific lather. It has a minty scent, not strong but very refreshing. My only regret is that I only bought one tube.

Unfortunately, I can't find any U.S. source for this product.

I love this cream, and fortunately,Williams is being cranked out en masse now, after a long hiatus. The elusive Williams Mentholee cream as well, and this one is really hard to find.Great cream with superb scent and thick rich lather.

Hi ackvil, Is this Williams cream only marketed in Europe perhaps? I think I'm confusing it with the American Williams Shaving Soap, which,by the way,I think is absolute garbage. They must be two different 'Williams' manufacturers since the tube you got appears to be produced in France. Any info anyone out there can provide is much appreciated. Thanks, Craig

It was once sold in Chile, but not of French or Belgian manufacture.NO! This is a high quality cream, nothing like todays American made soap puck.

Grazie mille malocchio(AKA 'evil eye')for your assistance. When is the last time you used this Williams creme in the tube? I'd like to try it if I can find some. The American Williams soap puck is absolute junk !

Hey now, I wouldn't say it's junk. Junk would be some of the soaps you get on eBay. Modern Williams still lathers well, it just takes a little bit of forearm action to muster up a good lather.

....There are puck Williams fans,I have used it over the years. It will make lather, but with extra time and care,so I only use it once a year, for nostalgia !...I used my tube of Williams before I sold my house, about 3 months ago.I am between houses now,and most of my shave stuff is deep in storage...PM me in a few months and remind me to send you a sample.I can assure you, when I am out of Williams cream,I will scour the net to find some, especially the mentholee

Thanks so much malocchio, I'll be sure to PM you in a couple months. I'd love to try it from the sample you send. It sounds like its very good stuff. I didn't have the patience to labor with that Williams soap puck. I didn't want to waste the time .Its useless,IMO. Arriverderci paisan. Craig

I'm willing to bet that the companies producing Williams branded products in France and South America are license holders that bought the right to produce under that name from the original Williams company many years ago. They probably have nothing to do with Combe Chemical (modern Williams) and nothing to do with each other.

this might well be true!

If it doesn't smell like bathroom cleaner and it actually produces lather are you sure it's Williams? I tried Williams pucks on and off for the last 25 yrs and the end result is the same...junk. I even made my own soap melting Williams, clubman lather from a tube and a puck of vanderhagen and the Williams managed to destroy the whole batch both with scent and lathering ability.

There are 3 different formulas of williams creams.
The one is the French(two variations one being mentholated) Williams.
There is a Spanish Williams-expert(ice blue).
Last but not least there is(or at least was until recently)a williams from Chile. It used to come in two variations(one being mentholated too).
All the formulas are different.

For some might be important so i have to tell you that: most of them contain Dimethicone, some of them contain Triethanolamine and some contain parabens.

@ sarimento1 ... Yes, the tube I recently found at my forgotten summer place is more than 15 years old. It has the same "Williams parent co." address etc as in the picture there/here. They enthus, as do I, about their lanolin. I haven't seen it on ANY shelves in a very long time. I live in northern europe for what it's worth.
