What's new

Why do I want to buy shave stuff all the time?

I really have no reason to be buying anymore shave stuff, but I have this overwhelming need to at the least look at stuff I could buy. I look at everything, razors,soaps,blades,stands,brushes,.... everything! How can I curb this other than blinding myself, cutting off the internet or my fingers and toes so I can't type?

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you are financially secure and have all your priorities set.

If all your bills are in on time and if you have a kid that's been asking for the new call of duty and you just bought him it, I really don't see why not. Life is short. Cents are meaningless. I see it like this-- if it makes you happy, go for it.

A very good friend of mine, upon seeing my 35 razors, 22 brushes, ten shaving mugs, numerous creams and 1600 blades, told me I had to much disposable income and no sense.

That friend still uses disposable razors and canned foam to shave with. He approaches shaving as a neccessary evil. Something to get over quickly.

I explained to him the pleasure of the "Shave", but he still does not get it. He is 67 years old and I doubt he will change. I shaved with disposable razors and Edge for most of my adult life. I will be 65 in December and I decided when I was 62 I was going to do something for myself.

I told him it gave me great pleasure to shave with razors and brushes that were fifty plus years old. The razors that I saved from the brink, the brushes I reknotted/saved and the flow of the history involved made me feel at peace with shaving, that turned into a hobby.

When I pass on, someone, possibly family, will be using the shaving heritage others and myself have used.

I still relive watching my father shave with a fat handled, GEM SE, a well worn boar brush, smelling the soap, moisture in the air and the Mennen after shave.

I only know of a few other things in life that could be better then that!

If you're only spending disposable income, yield to your ADs. You'll have fun and this is one of the most affordable hobbies. Also, most of the stuff will resell quickly here if you ever need to.

Do I need more? probably not. However, I enjoy shaving. Therefore I buy more and more and more. The only problem now is waiting for my facial hair, which happens overnight :)

Many are stuck in that situation, including me...

I am in the same situation as you. I have a respectable amount of shaving paraphenalia at home and can't seem to get enough stuff. In the last 3 weeks, I have bought an irisch moos stick, 10 empty shave stick containers to mill my shave soap into sticks, alt innsbruck AS, mama bear spicey lime SS, speick SC, an arko stick, and a semogue 620. I can't seem to stop and I can't figure out why

When you find you have too much....Feel free to list it on the B/S/T so the rest of us can further our AD!:lol:

Look at it as in investment (at least the hardware part of your purchases). With the stock market down, 401(k)s in the toilet, jobless claims up, etc., this is one "investment" that remains constant. If you had cornered the market in FBs years ago, think how rich you would be today.

For the software part of it (soaps, creams, etc.) look at it as a medical expense. It keeps you happy thereby saving you from buying expensive anti-depressive pharmaceuticals.

All in all, as I see it, you come out way ahead in the long run. :w00t:

For some reason, my wife thinks my logic is twisted. :mad3:

Same reason I buy guns. They're fun to play with and a pretty good investment.

Any guy toy you buy, play with for awhile and then sell for more or at least the buying price is a good investment.

At least that's what I tell my wife.

Why do some people have houses full of books when the library is just down the street?
Why do people collect stamps?
Why do people play golf?
Why do people people spend more on anything than they absolutely need to?
Why do people have hobbies and interests?
Why do people do anything?

I find myself having the same issue...anticipating the next morning when I'll finally be able to shave again. I come home from work in the evenings contemplating whether or not I can sneak in a shave before tomorrow. I've only been straight shaving a short time, but I am HOOKED!

Traditional wet shaving is one of the few hobbies you can do every day for the rest of your life. If you're only spending disposable income on it go ahead and feed the AD and enjoy the ride.

This is the least expensive hobby I have. I too look at various items, but hold back on purchasing everything I want. I buy a soap or cream every month or so (I now have 6 of each), and I bought a straight razor (I will buy more). I spend, on the average, around $25.00 per month. I can afford that, and I truly enjoy my shaves. Have fun--Life is Short!!!
