Who is truly hard to fit?

I wear shirts with a 21” neck and 36” sleeve. A 60” long coat and 42” waist by 32" length trousers, couple that with being long wasted and 13 6E shoe size and you have a nightmare trying to buy dress cloths, even ties, that have a proper fit off the rack. I’m positively certain I can’t be the only gent who is hard to fit, who else can’t or has trouble finding clothing that fit properly in a retail store.

Amen Brother!

I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I don't know my shirt size offhand but I know it's a 14.5" neck. I have a 29" waist and am 5'3". I'm a little guy and trying to find any pants that aren't too long and too baggy is a nightmare. It's good that skinny clothes are in because that makes it easier, but it's still horrible trying to find pants short and tight enough or shirts that don't have sleeves too long.

I wear a 44 long coat, 33 waist -- makes buying suits difficult. I usually wear 34x36 in jeans, so not so bad. 17x36 shirt -- pretty easy, but here is the killer: I wear a 15.5 AAA shoe. Yup, try finding those.

No kidding (grumble).
Nordstroms has a fantastic tradition of attempting to fit a broad range. Their shoes are a fine example. Also, their brand dress shirts normally have extra long tails. Sometimes you have to suck it up and pay for custom.

I really hated it when i would finally find a place that had a dress shirt with a 19 1/2 inch neck, (as all the stores close stop stocking at 18) but then the sleeves are either too long or too short. I've bought my last few dress shirts through the mail at Paul Frederick, and they have been really decent quality and have average pricing for most of their stuff.
I also have a hard time fitting hats too, currently I need a cranium cap of 8 3/4.

I'm somewhat with you. Although I can buy clothing off the rack, I need to have all my pants tailored for my 5'4" frame.

I have a coworker who wears 15EE, and buys his shoes almost exclusively online.

I am 5' 4" (5' 5" on tall days) and had a lot of issues with pants too. I found that Eddie Bauer has short sizes with a lower rise and they will hem them for you too. I bought a pair of jeans to try it out and they became my favorite pair. They have held up well for over 6 months and the crotch doesn't hang down around my knees. I recently bought 2 pairs of dress pants for work and I like them. If you want they will also do cuffs on dress pants, but not on jeans.

Answers to the name "Tiny".

I would imagine you'd have trouble just grabbing a suit off the rack. There's always custom fit, but that can run a fortune.

Thanks for the tip on the Eddie Bauer. There are a lot of tailors who travel to do made-to-measure clothes; I have found this very worthwhile especially on dress shirts. Look for their ads in your local paper or Wall Street Journal. You meet the tailor at a hotel, he measures you and faxes your order to Hong Kong. In a few weeks they come in the mail. The cost is only slightly higher than high-quality department store shirts and the selection of fabrics, styles and patterns is much better. In Phoenix Thaku's Menswear is the best place for short/slim sizes; they also do big and tall. Nice stuff but expensive. The book "Clothes and the Man" by Alan Flusser has good guidance on choosing clothes.

I'm with you! I wear a 30X32 and the dress pants are hard to find. Also, I have a narrow foot compounded by an old skin graft, back before plastic surgery was the high tech art it is today, on my right foot. Finding shoes are a nightmare.

you could be describing my dimensions, although i differ by an inch here and there.

my shoes, however, are size 13 but frightfully narrow...

and yes, ties are a nightmare. to get it long enough i always have a 2" tail that refuses to be hidden behind it's brother. i end up looking goofier with the tie than forgetting it altogether. for those wondering, i always tie a full windsor. 1/2 windsor just doesn't look right to me.

Funny, I am fortunate to be an off the rack kind of guy, my challenge is shoes.

I am blessed with size 11 b width feet with a tiny instep. Unfortunately if I want anything narrower than a D here in Canada, I have to shop south of the border, stores will only stock D and E widths locally. I have no problem paying upwards of $600-800 for a pair of dress shoes but for me proper fit is critical.

Interesting. Especially since the last time I took a pair of jeans to the tailor, it cost twenty dollars to have done. Of course, this was in Manhattan, and they did an excellent job. I take my dress pants to the tailor. I've sewn (slightly sloppily) khakis to my length. As for jeans, although I do have tailored jeans, let's just say I prefer a grungier look in jeans.

Can't even buy a sport coat that doesn’t need to be re-cut. Found it’s less expensive to buy tailor made, blazers, dress shirts, suits, sport coats, ties and trousers.

ps They call me Big Tony or Sir.

I have a hard time finding dress shirts. Im an 18 neck but 32/33 shirt so there few that have these in the store. Also I never find any hat that fits my grape....I wear an 8-1/2:thumbup1:. So the advantage of have no neck and a big head is....pretty much nothing

I have a difficult time shopping for jackets and shirts. I wear an 18 1/2" or 19" neck with 36" sleeves, but when the neck fits, the torso is always too big. Jackets are 50" to 52" and when they fight right in the shoulders/chest they are too big in the belly. But pants are easy and so are shoes.
