White Merkur Slant?

Time probably has little to do with handle thickness. According to the old catalogs they marketed normal and "schwer" (heavy) versions at the same time. Take a look at #36 and #37 in this photo via http://www.gut-rasiert.de/forum/index.php/topic,15523.0.html, for example:

Great research, thank you for your efforts.

Could be platinum coated. Jewelry can get that white with the proper levels of platinum/white gold, I don't see why a razor would be any different. Beautiful looking nonetheless

Here's my white handled vintage Merkur slant with the box it came in. I got it NOS and have kept it that way. Never used, and with the razor wrapped up in tissue paper. I only took it out of the box to take a picture of it so that I no longer have to take it out of the box. I can now just look at the pictures. Pathetic of course.

The handle has a very white, matte finish that looks great against the bright chrome.

Platinum, back then? kinda costly, no?

Well, its not as costly as one might think, remember its plating.
Now that i see the other photo, it looks too white to be platinum. It doesn't look to be metallic white based on the recent photos, but more of a white paint on the textured handled.
Haiku mentioned it is matte white, which just throws the kibosh on my platinum theory. Back to the drawing board!

I'm loving those ones in the Bakelite cases!

Until I get a chance to take some pictures, here's a picture I "borrowed" from an ebay listing. Mine is not nearly as minty, and it's labeled Merkur rather than Hoffritz, but otherwise it's pretty much the same.

If anything, it looks very much like paint to me. I don't think it is, I think it's a type of plating, but if someone were to tell me it's a paint I wouldn't be surprised.
