Where to throw junk/trash?

My garage is long over due for a cleaning. I have a lot of boxes full of "crap". Also I have old paint containers, a broken string trimmer/wee wacker, and just a bunch of misc junk.

I want to load it up in my truck and bring it somewhere but I dont know where?

Any ideas on how to get rid of this stuff? I don't want to pay a trash removal service money.

I guess I can call up my trash company but this would probably be too many items for them to pick up.

I am hoping there is a trash dump/site or some type of garbage center I can just bring this stuff to.

Don't you have local authority recycling and dumps over there? It seems to be a popular Sunday outing here in the UK going by the crowds at my local one when I take anything over

Look on a bulletin board at the grocery store or in a local paper's classifieds or on craigslist for someone offering general cleanup/cleanout haul away services. This will typically be someone with an old truck who can help with just what you want done.

Be sure to agree upon terms before he gets started.

CL will probably have someone offering a cleanout service. Your municipality can offer advice on disposing of the paint cans. You can probably give the string trimmer away on CL. Usually I just put an extra box of trash out each week if I have many items to toss.

In my area every year there is a "paint" recycling weekend. The city sets up 3 or 4 collection points where you can take your old paint varnish etc. I think you can take most any liquid from your garage really. Your area Lowes/Menards/Home Depot might be able to give you info as well.

Anything metal you could take to a scrap yards and get paid, but you have to seperate it.

When I last cleaned my garage i designated a corner for throw out stuff/boxes and set one or 2 out with the garbage 2X a week.

My county has a hazardous waste center for paint and other liquids like that.

Maybe your trash company has a transfer station you can drop stuff off at? They'd probably weigh the truck on the way in and out and charge per pound or something like that.

Call your local government authority (waste removal or similar) and ask them. They'll most likely schedule you for a bulk trash pickup where they'll come and get all the trash you can generate (within reason of course, if it fits in your truck you'll be fine). Let them know you have paint and other possibly hazardous materials and they can deal with those too. You'll just have to bring it out to the curb and maybe help them load it into the truck.
