Where to by Gillettes

Where is the best place to buy vintage Gillettes in good shape and reasonable price other than on the B&B? eBay seams to bee expensive and the condition is hit or miss. I have no local antique shops. Any suggestions?

Junk shops and charity shops are worth a look -- real bargains can be had, and great satisfaction. You could even advertise in the "goods wanted" section of your local newspaper. But if you want a particular razor then I don't think anywhere beats the BST section of B&B.

You can buy a NOS or like new Tech from fifties on eBay for about $20 if you check regularly.

I've found some killer deals at local dead people's stuff sales. I once found 3 Gillettes (a short comb New, a Tech, and a 60's Superspeed) and took them all home for $6 total. Happy hunting!

I've found my best deals at estate sales, but sometimes you can get lucky at antique shops. Just don't get discouraged if you don't find anything in the wild right away. I went to about 10 estate sales before I found my first vintage Gillette but when I did I scored a Fatboy in great condition for only $2. If you don't enjoy going to sales and junk shops I would say your best option is the B/S/T section here on B&B.

I'd recommend b/s/t and then ebay. I got one of my nicest razors through b/s/t, and am ordering another from Krona Kruiser (he replates vintage razors in chrome or nickel, does a great job from everything I've read and seen, and his prices are unusually reasonable).

You know what, message Krona and see what he has in stock. That and check b/s/t. If neither work, then I'd say ebay, or estate sales and antique stores if you like the thrill of the hunt (I prefer the hunt from my armchair!).

I started with modern razors, and now exclusively shave with vintage razors. I personally find them substantially better in terms of shave quality, gentleness to my face/neck, and style. Obviously this is very personal and many people will tell you the opposite. So, in the spirit of B&B . . . try them both! :001_tt2:

I recently purchased a birth year '53 Gillette Super Speed from B&B member Techichi. He has a website, but I sent him a PM of what I wanted and he got right back to me. The razor I received was everything he described and more and the price was less than the gas to spend one morning driving to shops or estate sales (and I'd never be lucky enough to find my birth year razor in a day or probably a month of hunting).

You can't beat Ebay when it come to diversity. When I want something, I pour myself a glass of Glenfiddish 12y and go on the bay for a hunt. That way, I don't burn half a tank for nothing.
