Where Can I Find One of These?

The more I use my Parker Shavette, the more I like it. Not just the shave, but I like the fact that I can use my cheap DE blades.

Which got me to thinking.... my ideal razor would be a 'straight' that accepts 1/2 DE blades like the Parker but is made with the quality of a Feather straight...

So where can I find one? :biggrin1:

I've used several Disposable Blade Straights. What you are asking for does not really exist. You aren't going to find anything with the build quality of a feather for DE blades. Probably the beefiest DE system I have seen/used is the Dovo Shavette. everything else is going to be on par with the Parker, just with different scales.

If you are willing to look beyond DE, but still stay cheap, look at getting a vintage Weck Sextoblade or Weck hair shaper. They take SE hair shaper blades that you can but at Sally Beauty. They have the look and feel of a real straight, and shave more like a real straight than a Parker or Dovo. There are a couple good threads around about Wecks if you want to know more.

Thanks, I keep hearing about the Wecks... Guess I'm gonna have to try one. I'm guessing you would remove the guards on the Weck hair shaper?

Depends on what Weck you end up getting. The true hair shapers have a guard that makes shaving impossible. Other Wecks have a guard you can use, it's like training wheels for a straight. Makes it almost as easy as a DE to use. The thing is when you switch sides you have to flip the guard as well.

You don't like the feather pros or supers? Whats the rationale behind it? Price of blades? Or feather blade holder?

I'm sure I would love the Feather - Don't actually own one. I just like the idea of being able to use a common DE blade as opposed to having to buy the significantly more expensive feather blade.

Makes sense. Thanks.
