Where Can I Donate Suits?

I did some spring cleaning and have several suits that I haven't worn in several years but are still in very good shape that I would like to donate. I saw a TV report several months ago about a charity that takes donated suits and gives them to homeless people so that they can interview for jobs. Anyone know what charity this is or something similar?

I take all my old clothes to the Walmart parking lot were you find these little wooden sheds all grouped together. Im not sure if these go to Goodwill or which organization but its for people who need the stuff so i take it there. Next time your to Walmart look around the parking lot, it will be in one of the corners. I see them in everyone i go to.

Men's wearhouse takes gently used suits, cleans and mends them, then give them to homeless men who are looking for jobs. Call your local MW.

Salvation Army or GoodWill. I think it's best to donate used clothing to non-profit organizations rather than for-profit entities. you could always do a google search for your town and see if there are any non-profit thrift stores in your area

Check donation drop-offs carefully, many of these boxes are NOT for charitable organizations; Items dropped could be being sold for profit.

Dress for Success is probably the organization you had heard about previously.

I've done the goodwill, yellow box and salvation army thing but you never know whether the clothes are actually going back to the community or being sent to a distribution center and shipped to some far off land. Maybe the young mans business league would know?

Mens Wearhouse may be a good start too.

Yea, I never checked into it. Knowing my luck there being sold for profit. Oh well. That was the first time I had ever done it. At least my heart was in the right place

One that I donated to was a Homeless Veterans Shelter.

They help some of these folks with job training and the suits come in handy for job interviews.

I'm a 42 R.

JK!

Its nice to see this good deed being done, regardless of BTL deductions.

Hope someone(s) will get a leg up as a result of your generosity.

I agree finding a local organization is always a good way to go. Easier to ensure a reputable charity will actually receive the benefit, rather than using an anonymous drop box location.

Around my neck of the woods for-profit drop boxes outnumber the legitimate charity drops; In fact several charities have removed parking lot drop-off locations altogether due to vandalism and theft problems (instead you have to drop at a staffed location).

In my case, the local Salvation Army thrift store is right around the corner, so it's still an easy decision for me. Our local community recycling centers will also accept used clothing donations on behalf of Goodwill.
