hey, im new to the boards. ive seen these Gillette tin metal signs that were used to hold Super Speed cases....there's one on everybody's favorite auction site now and I wanted to know if they're very rare.
While waiting for the real experts to chime in, a similar display is listed on 440 of Krumholz. Based on pricing in this book (which is obviously off due to its age), and no specific mention that the counter displays were rare, It doesn't appear to be the Holy Grail or anything. Having said that, these things were not made of the highest quality materials, they were dated by the price posted on them, and would retire and be replaced. As a result of the "cheaper" material and fabrication, and their use in a commercial environment as opposed to being owned by a private party, I'm sure that fewer survived than were destroyed.
Most of this stuff doesn't have any "real" value. It's value is how much people want it, and are willing to pay to make sure they get it.
If you want it, and can afford the price, get it. It looks like a nice piece of memorabilia.
