What's new

What the ? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!

Was in a hurry to get shaved and out the door tonight.
So instead of a shower and a shave with shave soap (Williams) and a straight razor or red tip gillette.
I grabbed a can of my son's Barbasol shave cream!
It's been over a year since I used canned shave cream.
My first thoughts while shaving= WHAT THE $#%@ IS THIS $#@%??:w00t:
Why I'll never use this stuff again!
I would rather shave with just water than stoop to using canned shave cream again.
I can't believe I ever used this stuff before:blushing:
Now I know why it's refered to as ( goo )
I guess after you know what the good stuff is you ani't going to ever be happy with the crap you used before!

Last year I spent a week in a full condo at the beach- my family of three, my parents in law, and two of my wife's teenage cousins. I had brought some Bic metal shavers and a travel size can of Colgate foamy. The razor was ok, but the Colgate I tossed out. I ended up using "hotel" soap, which worked so much better. This year I am bringing a real razor and probably some Proraso - but I'm going to skip the brush.

what did you use the barbasol with? if you used some crappy bic or gillette good news! disposable then its your own damn fault don't blame the barbasol!

I might have been dumb enough to use canned goo:blushing: but I was smart enough to use a real razor at least(red tip Gillette):001_smile

Just like everything else you teach your kids, how to shave is included.

Boys or girls...... My oldest daughter is 12 I've had her shaving with (high quality) soap and a brush since she started shaving her legs. (Which is the last two years.) But now I'm moving on making shaving soaps and learning the right way to lather a brush..... So as I'm learning how to lather a brush my daughter is learning that as well. So now we will have better shaving soap and better lather. Even though we both still use disposable razors. I don't think I'm quite ready yet to let my daughter use a DE yet..... but I'm sure that time will come after I switch over.

Sounds like some father/son bonding time is needed. While he might not be so impressed with the "lessons" now....... later on in life he might look back at that as a fond memory and glad you took the time to show him just what you know.

And remember not all dad's shave the "right way", (wet shave) and your lucky enough to be able to pass down what you know so he doens't have to make the same mistakes you made and hopefully learn the right way the first time.

I bought a can of Barbasol recently.

New scent.. Pacific Rush.

The shaves have been decent, but not quite as good as with soap/brush.

But not so bad that I felt compelled to come here and post about it.

*shrug*

did you take time to prep your face well?

it's even more important to prep well and use lots of water when you use canned goo, cuz that stuff isn't very hydrated.

just sayin'.

I think he as much said that he didn't prep since he skipped the shower etc.

Seriously I have to +1 this. Canned goo may not be the greatest thing but it's not the worst either. I dare say for some of us here it might actually be the perfect thing to use, it all comes down to how you use it.

I don't like canned goo because of the following:
1. I can often smell the propellent/various chemicals
2. It's not as moisturizing as shave soap or cream
3. I just don't like it

That said it can get results if need be. Oh and you get a lot farther with honey than you do with vinegar. If you're trying to convert your son to wetshaving, calling the stuff he's using **** isn't going to help.

he's right on the money- just tell your son it's a lot more expensive than the regular stuff. Most people equate price with quality. You don't have to tell him it will last much longer. Just that it was more expensive than his can of stuff.

How old is your son?

Might not hurt to point out that girls think it's sexy as well if he's single or just dating. Oh wait if he's married that might even be a plus as well.

But I agree with Chris, (SavantStrike) calling it a can of that four letter word won't help. But point out the positive facts about why you use it and like it better. After all why do you use it?

As a female I know it get a better shave. Even to my pre-soaping days when I was just lathering up a bar of caress between my hands and didn't own a brush. And for me another big point is that it doesn't clog up the razor with so it can't be used. Then there is the green factor. Granted I'm not all green and I do like disposable items and many canned item, but it's just one product I can live without that doesn't need to end up in the landfill.

Another thought, take him shopping either in a store or online and buy him his first set. Make him proud to be wet shaving with the right equipement. Not that you need to spend big bucks but a good inexpensive starter set would be nice for him. And someday he can do the same with his own son (or daughter)..... That's how traditions begin.

My son has recently graduated HS and is completing his final summer as a kid. In September he's off to carry on the family business (USAF). I've made overtures but he's rather intimidated by old safety razors and soap and has thus far clung doggedly to his cheese grater and canned goo.

When he graduates Basic Training and has more than 5 minutes to shave, shower, dress and make a bed, I plan to PIF him a starter kit including a Gem Jr. 1912, an Omega Boar Brush and a bunch of soap, Dickinson's WH and a few old school AS lotions. He may not take to it immediately but eventually (as happened to me) curiousity will get the best of him and then it's on like a pot of neck bones. Of course I'll provide him ample written instructions and various links to on line wetshaving support groups (such as B&B)

Why skip the brush? If you're taking everything else, you might as well grab it.
