What Shavette / Barber Razor Did You Use Today?

Straight Razor people can be a 'bit funny' with barber razors/shavettes as they don't consider them to be proper straights......so we took the slot and can try to renegotiate at a later stage once established.

Time to post my silly JPEG again:

And since it is unlikely to be understood by anyone who isn't, a) British, and b) >50 years old. Some context: Class - John Cleese, Ronnie Barker & Ronnie Corbett | Class - John Cleese, Ronnie Barker & Ronnie Corbett (The Frost Report) | By Classic British ComedyFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/ClassicBritishComedyUK/videos/class-john-cleese-ronnie-barker-ronnie-corbett/397237257649614/

I think Ronnie Barker might have been a bona fide comic genius. I was never mad about Open All Hours and I don't think it has aged well, but I still rewatch Porridge and to my surprise, it still holds up.

Focus Slim Al
Rubie (4)
Nivea cream
Yaqi badger
Floid a/s

How much as I try there is no love between Focus and me. End result was good DFS- but shaving process was not enjoyable. One weeper. And this Yaqi brush has no love for me. It want all the lather for itself.

Tomorrow will be better.

Your blade is not in the razor properly. It should not extend past the projections that are supposed to guard the blade edges.

Interesting ! I'll check it on Monday. I am quite sure the blade is resting on pins and cannot sit any further in razor.
Anyway if it is the case and it has bigger exposure the better it is! It allows me shallower shaving angle. I have even shaved with half-DE in Feather SR. I think there is no concept of blade exposure with open blade razors.

I know what you mean, but I think that you can still support the blade either side, rather than having it flapping about.

I will admit, sometimes I just hold a blade inbetween my fingers and use it to pick off a stray hair, if I spot one after I already took the blade out of the razor, but I think in the course of normal shaving it helps to have somekind of clamping reasonably close to the cutting edge, which stops the blade flexing when it hits stubble.

Of course, the thicker the blade stock, the more it will resist flexing on it's own.

This one is also not in the razor correctly. You can get cut.

Here is how it should be:

Notice on the Focus that the blade does not protrude. (Neither does it on the Parker)

Great shave today with a Schick Proline in the SR. BBS. No blood. No drama.

This is the way it should be! I find it astonishing that the Pro Supers really were the cause of all my woes on the past couple of shaves. I definitely had doubts. Was it me? Had my technique suddenly deserted me? But I guess the proof is in the pudding!

Happy days. :straight:

Thank you @Doc Dan, @Goblin for taking care of me ! My picture you are refer to is only for SOTD purposes.
I always take my razors apart and clean after shave. Then reassemble and oftentimes take a SOTD picture. I was apparently sloppy to put razor together. Anyway I'll check my razor procedures.

I am not a junior shavette user anymore. Have used them some five years.
