What is Your Post-Shave Routine?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but what is your post-shave routine?

After I'm done, I throw on some Witch Hazel and then the cologne that I'm going to wear. Do any of you do anything more extensive?

Usually nothing unless I was rough on my face. In that case it's WH, covered up by the Nivea balm. I use just enough of the balm to mask the WH smell; I don't want the scent of it to come off too strong.

- Warm water rinse
- Alum bar
- Cold water rinse
- T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel (clean up shave den while it dries)
- Aftershave (during the hottest weather, Osage Rub then regular aftershave)
- Balm (if required, usually not in the hot weather)

- Warm water rinse
- Alum Block
- Thayer's Original Witch Hazel (medicated version if necessary)
- Nivea Sensitive Aftershave Balm

When I'm done with the shave my usual routine is as follows:

Should there be a nick or weeper I use a liquid septic.

Warm water rinse.

Cold water rinse.

Alum block.

Leave alum on while I clean up razor, brush, etc. etc.

Another cold water rinse.

Pat on witch hazel, any brand thats on sale at Wal Mart, drug store, market.

Use a balm, after shave cologne.

This routine works really good for me, but of course its subject to change. :tongue_sm   :001_tongu

If I use Mitchell's Wool Fat after I shave its cold water and let it air dry. Anything else lukewarm water rinse, alum block, let it dry and as face tightens clean up the place, cold water rinse, aftershave like Penhaligons BB AS or Kiehls herbal AS (the blue stuff), and a multipurpose ASB or Feather Aftershave

Maybe you should try just a bit less pressure....

I don't wear cologne since I'm a little sensitive to scents. Some aftershaves are OK.

Warm water rinse, followed by either of the following:

GFT Skinfood - Sandalwood or Limes
Speick AS - I've really come to love this product
Boosters AS - favorites are Mosswood and Oriental Spice

I'm looking for a nice balm to add to the mix - now that it's going to get a lot dryer here in Southern California in the fall.

I got some Institut Karite AS Balm - the jury is still out on this one.

You can read about endless variations of post-shave every day in the SOTD thread if you wish.

Cold water rinse
Men's Choice Aftershave Anti-Razorburn balm got it from my Local HEB store.
20 minutes later I put on my aftershave.
