What's new

What I learned my first month with DE shaving

At the end of the first month with a DE what have I learned?

1. The Weishi is to light and mild for my use

2. Wilkinson Sword Blades (Black Box) and the Weishi don't mix

3. I get a better lather with glycerin

4. The Yuma razor is deceptively mild

5. Derby blades are the least sharp blades I have next to the Wilkinson Sword

6. Gillette 7O'clocks (yellow) are decent

7. Dorco 301s are way better than Dorco stainless

8. Keeping a log helps me remember what works and doesn't for my shaves

Trial and error works best. It takes time to find the right combo of razor, blade, brush and soap. Try different combinations.

Nice post and well done!

The only thing that I would add is to remember that your opinions on a specific product may be RADICALLY different after your technique has settled in compared to the first few months of your shaving career. Keeping a log is a great idea, but it's also a good idea to give a product that you didn't like at first a second chance in 6 months or so. You might be surprised how much "ageing" a product improves its performance!:thumbup1:

I will try some combos again part of the reason of for the log. The other reason have too many razors and blades I want to try.

My plan is one razor for each month and one blade per week (3-4 shaves per blade since I shave every other day) I have about 12 different blades from my sampler to try

I have only a few creams and soaps at the moment so I it normally ends up being the soaps that change the most.
