What happens when you don't try for BBS?

First time trying out the Bigelow cream enjoyed the menthol cooling cooling sensation. I didn't plan to shave till tomorrow when inormally do my weekend shave. As I was shaving my neck was feeling rough all over almost like I had just done a single pass when I finished pass 3 so I did 4th on the neck and some touch ups around the corner of my mouth.

Now for my suprise today I was just trying to for a comfortable close and no major sandpaper feel just to get through the weekend till Monday. I ended up with a Super Close and Comfortable shave I mean it was just shy of BBS close. Once everything settled post shave it was just a couple of spots at the base of my neck that were rough and just barely at that.

I mean I wasn't even trying and not sure I could replicate this again. So now I do I replicate this going forward? Have you had a shave where you just where the hell did this come from?

I thought a shaving goblin came out of your medicine cabinet and beat you with your shaving brush if you don't try for BBS . I go for a CCS or DFS. Its better for my face when I don't go for BBS.

Perhaps you are over thinking your shave? Put on some nice old jazz and just enjoy the shaving experience

When I don't aim for BBS, I get BBS anyway. It's practically second nature to me by now.

It'd be great if we could get swatch samples of various members' "BBS" shaves. I'm not the type to go to a shaving convention so I won't be caressing too many fellow shavers' faces to understand what their standards are, but I have a nagging suspicion I wouldn't define BBS or even DFS the same way many else seem to.

I've gotten some pretty smooth cheeks before, but cannot say the same for my neck, and even the cheeks are humiliated with even a cursory touch of a non-crusty human infant posterior.

Sometimes I still feel a slightly rough spot or two at the lower neck and I stop shaving and walk away giving up going for a BBS. when I wash off my face I can feel the spots. I put on aftershave and immediately after I can still feel them. Two or three hours later for some reason they are just about gone and I never know why that is. My neck becomes smooth. Weird

"Presentable" is close enough for me. This morning I did a WTG and XTG pass. When I have a bit more time, I add a RXTG pass. But 2 passes is good enough for my mother-in-law

I almost always get BBS on my face and neck without much effort..3 passes plus touchup and it just happens 90% of the time for me, I can easily go against the grain though and have super tough skin. I do admit though, on occasion, usually when I'm using a less than ideal razor or I have pushed a blade too far..I'll have a small rough spot or two left. Also, I define BBS as absolutely no stubble or rough areas and you could drag a cotton ball/pad against the grain and it not catch or shred the cotton..not that I do that but just a example.

I get BBS on the face with two passes of my OC razor; the neck,I rarely get BBS. I have tried various techniques,razors, blades, and mapping of hair growth patterns. I settle for DFS on the neck and go on with my day.

If I didn't try for a really close shave a good area of my neck and on my face, just to the sides of my chin, would not get one.

I am sure that there may be some exaggerations made by some members, but I can assure you many of us achieve daily BBS with no irritation. These type of threads would appear, in some part, to be threads of rationalization. BBS is simply defined as a shave with no palpable stubble when stroking with your fingers ATG. Six hrs later, I will begin to feel slight stubble. Certainly, BBS is not necessary for most, but, for decades, I have never really considered not having BBS.

I generally go for BBS, but there is no denying that sometimes that fourth clean up pass on the chin is not doing my skin any favors. As I rinse off the lather from the third pass with my hand it's hard to feel a rough patch and not go after it. I'm sure it matters to literally nobody but me.

Your join date implies that you are probably new to wet shaving. With that in mind, your technique is probably getting better to where it's second nature.

I have shaving with DE for just a couple months. I have gone from presentable with a little bit of irritation to pretty much none and generally comfortable close. Yesterday was just a WOW shave all the way around. I generally shave every other day because I am presentable for 2 days after any given shave...
