What's new

What do you want for Christmas?

Every year we all hear what our kids, nieces, nephew etc want for Christmas but what about us? Anyone want to share their "want" list. My Dad made sure when we were growing up we knew the difference between want and need. I tried to make it quite clear the things I want for Christmas I do not need.

For me the best part of Christmas is watching others open what I think is the perfect gift for them.

***Disclosure*** I did buy myself an early birthday present on my husbands credit card though. LOL

"What do I want for Christmas?"

SWMBO's smile as she opens her gifts from me.

and additionally this Christmas ... seeing my niece enjoy her first Christmas.

I actually managed to find something I would like for Christmas this year: The Breadmaker's apprentice by Peter Reinhart. I'm already baking a lot of bread but there are always things that I'm not quite happy with :001_smile

I want a good, joyful, relaxing visit with my family. I want to watch my young son have a great visit with his grandparents. I want to eat lots of my Mum's great cooking ... without gaining weight. I want to find the perfect something to give SWMBO&A, and I want to have a relaxing couple of weeks away from work.

I really don't need a material "souvenir" of that. :thumbup1:

... I spent the past year buying them for myself over the internet. Now ... how to tell the wife. :a49:

Watching my four-year old grandson open his presents. So glad to have him around. Actually, I am so very glad to be around to experience having a grandson.

Otherwise, a CZ 452 Lux .22 rifle. Yeah!

Regards,

David

My son is not old enough to really understand the whole concept, so I still have a year for that one. I want to see the wife's face when she opens her present.

Material posessions for me? Well, I could use a bridgeport vertical mill with power feed, or get my .510 dangerous game rifle done.

A Wee Scot.

SWMBO and I are going on a Bahama's cruise in January. It's a business trip through the direct sales company she is with, but hey, it's the Bahama's in January! Christmas enough for me. Plus, it comes at the same time I start my military retirement leave!

That is a great trip you have planned. I am jealous. I am taking a vacation in February but not sure if I will go anywhere.

Thanks. We are looking forward to it. We won't be able to do any side trips, but just getting away for almost a week will be fun. When we get home, I get to start setting up my own business, and hopefully get it off the ground before my military leave is up.

I hope you enjoy your vacation. Some of the best ones are staying close to home. After traveling all over with the Air Force, there are many places close to home that I want my children to experience that are within a days drive round-trip.

Visit your local tourist information office. You will probably be surprised at all of the things there are to do close to home! I know I was.

I hate the whole concept of watching someone open gifts hoping for a certain expression.Same goes for being watched. My wife likes to get pictures of "the moment".It ruins the whole purpose of giving to someone else when you're really giving it to trigger an emotional response that you benefit from."I hope you like it so you'll like me more".

Now to keep in spirit of this thread.I'll give the same response I give my wife. A card would be just fine, if I really want someting I'll go get it.

Wanting for wisdom
Getting together with family, sharing some good food. Catching up on who is doing what and what niece or nephew has graduated from university or has hatched a little one. Perhaps there will be some more pleasant memories.

Some of my fondest memories come from Christmas. We used to play a game before Trivial Pursuit that we called the dictionary game. One person would be in charge of running the game and looking up obscure words. The rest of the players would write out a likely definition. The person running the game would read out the definitions and then each of us would choose the definition that we thought was correct. We would get one point for each person we suckered into choosing our definition.

Perhaps it sounds dull but I do know the correct definition for "Fartlick" and you may well be able to imagine what some of the definitions were that we came up with.

I can honestly say I have never given a gift in hopes someone will like me more. If I thought they did not love me with all their heart I probably would not be looking for the perfect gift. Besides my children are very young and think they are getting presents from Santa. So the white haired chubby guy gets the credit.

I wish for an uneventful holiday season ( ie stay out of the hospitals ) and to see my daughters face when she gets the tea set she was asking for along with some loose leaf teas.

I get the stuff I need when I need it.. I don't want for anything besides staying healthy and enjoying my time with my family.
