What's new

What if you had $500.00 to spend of Shaving Stuff how would you spend?

1) A tuck of 100 assorted blades
2) One each of the four brands of Noble Otter soap and after shave (Lonestar, Monarch, BarrBarr, and Rawr) carried by our Central Market.
3) One large container of Witch Hazel .

That's all a minimalist would need for quite some time.

Don't need anything so I'd buy a good selection of stuff and give it away.

Thank you all for the likes and general appreciation of my post. I have long been readily given to guilt for spending money on myself and I’ve pretty much always preferred giving over getting. But lest anyone think I am overly altruistic, I am not immune to the fantasy of profligate spending. So allow me a second chance to play.

Anymore I find that my wants are generally few and mostly modest in their scope so the idea of having $500 to frivolously spend on shaving stuff actually presents a difficult proposition. (I still haven’t spent last Christmas’s Amazon gift cards!) Nevertheless, little things add up quickly so here goes:

- restore my dad’s Fatboy (maybe)
- re-knot a copy of my dad’s brush (I prefer to leave his as he last used it)
- get a boatload of samples from Stirling and others = leading a purchase of some full-sized tubs
- buy a backup for my current (and only) synthetic brush
- buy a bottle of cologne to play around with creating a preferred scented shave soap

So all that would add up to what – maybe $200? $250 max? $500 is a lot to spend if you don’t covet the expensive razors that so many are vocal about or collect vintage razors or brush handles. Been there, done that and gave them away years ago. (Though I might consider replacing a beloved Gillette Goodwill that I PIFed a while back) And custom brushes don’t interest me. I just think it’s hard to justify dumping so much into something I do out of necessity for 5-10 minutes a few times a week. Perhaps if it (using and collecting) were an actual hobby, I’d sing a different tune. More power to you if you can or do, because I enjoy learning, sharing and exchanging ideas with you.

If I lived within reasonable distance of a retail shaving store--I'm almost exactly 3 hours from Maggards, for example--I'd take my $500 there and just browse the store.

That makes it more of an occasion, rather than waiting for a package delivery.
That certainly would be the easiest and perhaps best way to spend that much money on shaving products.

That's just in general.

What I'm specifically looking at right now is seeing if a business that does titanium nitrite coating (which is a gold-colored, hard, wear-resistant plating) for gun parts might consider doing such a coating on my Yaqi Bohemia or GameChanger. I just fired off an email asking them about this a few minutes ago.
