What do you think of gillette shave cream?

Even before I moved on to a higher level of shaving courtesy of thsi site, it was clear that Gilette was an average cream that dried out my skin. Don't bother. There are plenty of economical high quality options available.

I have 3 of their Lebanon made tubes. The regular and lemon are still awaiting their turn. I started using their menthol about a week ago. I don't know what happened but both Omega and Proraso menthols are not having their cooling effect on my skin. The Gillette menthol created a good lather even though I had to use a bit more product. It provided excellent glide, good performance. The scent was fine...medicinal. Didn't irritate the skin. The menthol was great and left the skin feeling refreshed afterwards. I recommend it.

If you like Gillette creams enjoy them while they last. I have been told from more than one source that Gillette is getting out of the brush-type creams altogether.

From the reviews I have found, it seems that the quality is dependent on who makes it. The consensus is that the French version is better quality of the Lebanese version, a few reviewers on other shaving forums said that while the Lebanese version was comparable in terms of lathering ability and glide it smelled artificial and chemical like compared to the French one and tended to dry out the user's skin.

very commercial. I used this stuff in Latin America, readily available there. not my cup of tea. definintely not worth the money. Honestly I'd go with the arko moisture shave creams which are better and cheaper. for $7.5 o why not give razorock a try. la famiglia line is great.
also if u have yet to try it, it's amust:

I tried some of the Gillette regular in the tube with my last shave. It was ok. Nothing spectacular on the lather. It was a very close comfortable shave though. One of the best shaves I have had in a while. I don't know if that was due to the Gillette shave cream or not. I will use it again for sure in my rotation, though.

Basically what it comes down to is for the $ there are other options. I don't dislike Gillette nor like them just being objective. Tried a couple along with O.S. in a tube and didn't care for either. Better spend your hard earned bucks on MUCH better soaps for a buck or two more.

Yeah, I agree with your point. I was just putting my impression of Gillette shave cream. I have also liked Speick's and the tube of Old Spice that I have. I have some Proraso green on the way as well.

My experience with Gillette shave cream in the tube started nearly 50 years ago. At the time, I mostly used some brushless creams, or canned foams; I only occasionally got down a coffee mug with my OS soap in it to build a lather. But my beard seemed to become more problematic suddenly, or I got some bad blades, bad shave cream, whatever it was, my shaves were worse. Gillette in the tube was an inexpensive option, and seemed to lather up with the local hard water better than the Old Spice soap.

.I haven't seen any in any retail outlet in many years now, although I still had a couple of practically unused tubes stashed away (one had a sprung bottom seal, and it had both dried out a lot, and smelled funny, so was discarded when I discovered the failure). I can't imagine going to a lot of effort to get more of it now, when it's only available overseas.

However, it was good enough for long enough, that were I to see an imported tube of it at a reasonable low cost now, I probably would buy another. At the same time I'd started using the Gillette product, I also started using the Palmolive cream, and I will invest the effort to buy imported tubes of that.
