What do you accomplished honers use for magnification and a light source?

I was looking at one of those cheap 30x loupes on ebay only to determine they are only about 10x. I can get just about as good with a magnifying glass I have around the house. Any suggestions?

Search for tool makers visor or loupe. Some have light sources. I use a focused lamp with a inexpensive visor.

Wanting for wisdom
I've liked the 2x, 5x,and 10x loops I bought for 2 bucks at Lee Valley and then moved up to the 10 buck pocket microscope from Radio Shack. The bigger step is getting to know what you want to see results wise.

I use a cheap 30X loupe sometimes. I got it on Amazon and I think it is about 14X, at best. I know that Ken Rup is using a small illuminated microscope from RadioShack that is selling for $12.
