Summary:

A smooth and satisfying shave today, although nothing to write home about.
In line with my approach of only changing one variable per shave if I can, I tried the Tech aluminium. The razor / blade combo is a bit of a letdown after using the SLOC Yaqi Mellon zamak. The shave was smooth and without a single weeper - even on my neck, with a day 1 blade. That is unusual! However, the result isn't as smooth as the Mellon, although there is no irritation and it is still a good enough result.

#26 GRUME May 2024 - Still in

Date: 05.13.24

Days growth: 6

Head and face shave

Razor: Gillette Fatboy

Blade: Gillette Nacet (3)

Brush: Simpson T3

Pre-shave: Hot shower using Johnson and Johnson on face and head with facial scrubber. Tabac bloom water

Lather: Tabac bowl lathered

Passes: 2. WTG ATG

Post Shave Routine and products:

1 - Hot rinse with microfiber towel X2

2 - Cold rinse

3 - Alum block

4 - Cold rinse with microfiber towel X1

5 - Aftershave: Tabac edt

6 - Balm: Nivea sensitive skin

Notes: Today was a great shave. My previous shave was terribly uncomfortable due to foot problems; those problems were not an issue today thank god. The Tabac bowl lathered better today due to the T3 and its awesome properties. Last shave I used the Simpson 57 best and though I was able to work up a decent lather it was nowhere near today’s lather. The razor performed well on setting 7 then setting 5. The Fatboy never disappoints.

Today I tried a different Blade

Razor: 1961 Fatboy (my new favorite)
Blade: Gillette Super Blue
Brush: Perfecto Synthetic
PreShave: Proraso Green
Shave Soap: Proraso Green
Aftershave: Clubman Pinaud

On a recommendation I tried a Gillette Super Blue Blade. Not as sharp as Bic. But just about the perfect mild/agressive balance. No nicks or cuts. Feeling confident I did a head shave too. Again no nicks or cuts. I did not achieve BBS as I did with the Bic, but no knicks, cuts, or irritation on head or face is worth not getting BBS. This is the first blade I've used that has done that.

So I'd give this combo a 10.

Sharp-Dressed Trifecta

Stirling Unscented Pre-Shave Soap Bar
Razor: Game Changer .76-P with Timeless Crown handle
Blade: Nacet (1)
Soap: Stirling SDM
Brush: PAA Amber Aerolite 24mm Synth
Bowl: Timeless
Post-Shave: Stirling SDM AS and balm

After reading some posts by @Phoenixkh earlier today regarding the versatility of the Ti Crown handle, I decided to mix things up a bit and give it a whirl with my GC .76-P. It was an excellent match. The GC head is slender and does not feel all that much heavier than the Timeless Ti .95SB. Balance was very good. The shave was an easy 10/10. The GC .76-P and Timeless Ti .95SB are my top two razors at the moment. I really need to revisit the GC 1.05 plate and see how that goes (instead of surrendering to my urge to order a Lupo or a Ti Slim, for instance).

Razor: Henkotsu Kamisori, wrapped handle
Hone: Black Shadow
Brush: Omega 11573 Boar
Shaving Cream: Wm. Neumann “OFS”
Aftershave: E&S Rasage Oasis

The scent of the Wm. Neumann Okd Fashioned Soda was perfect as I face lathered with a soft tipped, scrubby Omega.

The Henkotsu Kamisori is very gentle and just sweeps away the shaving cream and whiskers. I love the size, heft, and grind of this Henkotsu.

A splash of Oasis and I’m ready for the day.

A smooth, easy shave. Very nice scents and the dichotomy of a scrubby brush and silky steel was perfect. 10/10.
