What are you drinking tonight?

Been enjoying some Lauder’s Scotch.

Had a drink at Officina in DC, Saturday night. I usually dislike amaro in drinks, but this one, I forget what they called it, was mind-expanding as to what a cocktail could be. Extraordinarily complex, but balanced, smooth. Rum, demerara sugar, Fernet-Branca, and Branca Menta, the menu said. Seems to have some citrus in it. Must have some foaming agent in it, like egg whites and/or gum syrup. I have not been able to fully replicate it at home yet, but I tried. First time in quite a while I have been this impressed with the originality and quality of a drink!

Anyone else ever run into such a combination?

Thanks. I seem to have a continuing "consuming" interest in these things!

I think the drink was $15 at Officina. Not so expensive by DC standards. Not at a restaurant of Officina's caliber, anyway. Not for something that grabbed my attention. Of course, there was also the next day's driving all over town trying to find Branca Menta and buying it. (I already owned Fernet-Branca, and this gives me something to do with it!)
