What's new

Well....... I tasted the Kool-Aid

and it was pretty good! :001_tongu Although I have been wet-shaving for many years, before it was a case of multi-blade abomination and a quick lather in the hand (or worse yet "goo in a can") until I recently converted to a safety razor. Experiences were all good and then a couple of days ago I bought a Tabac soap- had time this morning to try it out and really enjoyed a great shave. This stuff rocks! It will now be a regular part of my rotation with creams from Prosaso, TOBS and Nivea. Shaving has never been so enjoyable.

Everybody loves kool aid! Ironically I was pretty sure from your thread title that you were referring to Tabac.

The shaves will only get better and better as you become more familiar with your gear and what works for you.

Yeah. I saw thread title. Knew it was another Tabac thread. :001_rolle

My idea for a Tabac sticky looking better and better, ain't it mods?

I kinda disagree with SullyBob on shaves getting better though. Tabac (for me anyway) makes the same quality lather no matter what I do. I can add no water other than the brush. I can run water straight into the scuttle from the tap. It doesn't care. It just lathers and lathers and lathers. That's actually why I like it. It's almost cheating at lathering. Lathering tabac from puck to scuttle works (for me) like lathering on top of the puck of anything else I've tried. Tabac seems to work with a huge range of water amounts, and when you're lathering on the puck you kind of emulate that ability by picking up more soap if you make the lather too wet. Both ways get me great lather. Tabac means I don't have to keep moving a puck in and out of my scuttle.

You really had me scared there . . . I thought it was a Jones town suicide reference which was a very very sad and creepy story indeed. Glad this is not what you are talking about.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it is a Jonestown suicide reference. Prior to that incident, this phrase was not a part of our vernacular.

From Wikipedia:

Drinking the Kool-Aid has become a common phrase owing to the beverage's alleged role in the Jonestown Massacre, and is used to insinuate that one has mindlessly adopted the dogma of a group or leader without fully understanding the ramifications or implications.

And from the Urban Dictionary:

1. drink the kool-aid - A reference to the 1978 cult mass-suicide in Jonestown, Guyana. Jim Jones, the leader of the group, convinced his followers to move to Jonestown. Late in the year he then ordered his flock to commit suicide by drinking grape-flavored Kool-Aid laced with potassium cyanide. In what is now commonly called "the Jonestown Massacre", 913 of the 1100 Jonestown residents drank the Kool-Aid and died.

One lasting legacy of the Jonestown tragedy is the saying, “Don’t drink the Kool-Aid.” This has come to mean, "Don’t trust any group you find to be a little on the kooky side." or "Whatever they tell you, don't believe it too strongly".

The phrase can also be used in the opposite sense to indicate that one has embraced a particular philosophy or perspective.
Alice: Hey, did you hear that Joe is working on the Nader campaign?
Bob: Yeah, he really drank the Kool-Aid on that one.

Chris: I'm thinking about attending a PETA rally
Donna: Whatever you do, don't drink the Kool-Aid!
