The smooth hexagon shaped handle is the newer one. It also has the improved blade stops that the blade slides under, the first version with the round knurled handles has small stops that the blade is pushed against.

I saw somewhere that the Ever-Ready 1914 were produced from 1914 - 1916. Is this correct?

I recall seeing an ad from 1921 or 22 that showed the smooth handle but I can't find it in my files now, but here's one from 1923.

No, they were made a lot longer than that. Here's an ad from a 1926 catalog showing it and the 1924 being available to shop owners.

It was the first I found. The initials, town, and date are the icing on the cake. Astoria, at the mouth of the mighty Columbia River, was a booming port and salmon cannery town back in the 1920s.

I have to admit, I only tried Gem blade razors because there are so many wild ones out there. I figured they must have something going for them.
This isn't the thread to praise other Ever-Ready years, but I am a big fan of the 1924 Shovelhead, as featured in some of the HoosierTrooper catalog listings above.
