Washington, DC discovery

Just discovered that Mystic Water has a real nice booth at the Kensington Farmer's market in Kensington MD (Saturdays 0800-1200 April-Nov.). I've never tried or seen Mystic Water products before (although I've seen them discussed here) and have the impression that they're good. She had quite a selection there--all kinds of shave soaps and sticks, good looking synthetic and badger brushes for next to nothing, and nice looking shave bowls. Bought a couple of soaps for myself--couldn't resist and not sure where I'll put them--and one for my son. She (Michelle?) was making a real nice looking lather while I was talking to her-with a minimum of effort--felt nice and slick (and thick) between my fingers. Can't wait to try them out.

Mystic Water has been my favourite recently. It might take some trying to get the ultimate lather (what Michelle showed you), but it's worth it. I finished a puck of Sensitive Skin today, a few remnants in the bowl which would be difficult to load, so I stuck them on top of a QCS soap. QCS soap is really good, but I find MW to be a notch above, and it will be interesting to see how "Mystic Charlotte" will perform (the remnants only cover about half the puck, so I'll pick up both when loading). MW holds water really well, and if you get it right the lather just doesn't dry out at all.

Michelle has decided not to use coconut oil in her soap formula, as she claims it is drying. I wonder if this is what brings it a notch above everything else for me ("everything else" usually has coconut oil), I can shave with many different soaps (with coconut oil too), but the post shave feel is very special. Whatever the trick is it has worked well for me.

That's interesting about the coconut oil. I actually bought the coconut soap for my son and just checked--and you're right--there's no coconut oil in the ingredients. I wonder what she uses for the nice coconut aroma.

The scent is provided by a fragrance oil.

Michelle is correct that, although coconut oil is moisturizing, when it is saponified it is quite drying. Her soaps are really nice.

Michelle has some great scents, I like the Adirondack Jack, and the Marrakesh. It's best to start drier and add water as you go, as it can be very finicky, but the quality of the product is never in question. She's an absolute pleasure to deal with, as well. shavenook.com usually has a thread or two going about Mystic Water soap.
