What's new

was given this as an early Christmas gift

Box it came in says its a George westenholm but I can't find any identifying markings. Just an engraving of initials that I can't quite make out and a cross similar to the knights templar cross. Will get better pictures soon.

The little cross, in the position that its in, makes me think that this is a wade and butcher, with the stamp worn almost completely away. It can be made shave-ready again, its not in terrible shape. It could definitely use a restoration.

Oh yea definitely. I rubbed it down with polish but will take it somewhere to get it professionally shined, polished, and sharpened. Thinking about taking it somewhere to see if its genuine silver as well. Apparently it is idk. I just wonder about the George Westenholm box it came in.

When you see things like "silver steel" or "genuine silver steel" it is a 19th century marketing ploy. They may have put trace amounts of silver in it. Its better that its not pure silver anyway, it wouldn't shave worth a damn if it was, silver is too soft a metal :)

BTW that's "Wostenholm" with an "o".

Wosties are all great razors. They made quite a variety of models but all were good and are highly regarded today. But I think you have a Wostie box but not a Wostie razor. They were always stamped with the brand on the "show" side of the shank.

Merry Christmas! Those are great gifts. Do you plan on using them? If you want, I'll hone them up for you for free to continue the Christmas giving. If you're interested, shoot me a message.
