Wanting a Fatboy

I'm finding myself really liking the looks of the Fatboy and wanting to try one based on it's, what seems like, almost mythical status. Obviously the price for a pretty one can get steep. This has led me to thinking about buying one and having it replated. What should I look for one on that I want to have refinished? Obviously it needs to be functionally sound, but how much exterior ugliness can be corrected?

I'm sure it's highly variable, but what should I expect to pay for a quality replating job?

Don't know but others will. I paid probably too much on the Bay for one in really good condition, but I am super pleased with it.
Its great to use and will hold its price if I ever decide to sell it in the future.

you'd have to contact the replater for a price, they all have different methods and prices and some will over touchups, clean ups, repair service for a fee. and prices vary with what material you use to replate.

as for what condition, i fit's got scratches and damage, they'll show up with a replate. pitting will likely be smoothed over with some buffing, but again, how much work the replated will do is up to you and the person doing the work for you.

check past sales on ebay and the BST for what going rates are for FB's right now. they seem to be very high again.

Buying a user grade FB and then re-plating will run you much more than grabbing a nice one off the B/S/T. Why don't you wait until you hit the 45 day mark and then post a WTB? I'd bet you get offers for nice uncased ones in the $30 to $40 range.

That's a good point. I'm pretty close to 45 days anyway.
