Wall Mounted Shaving Mug?

Hello,
I purchased an item at an estate sale because, to me, it looks like it could be an old wall mount shaving mug. Could be totally wrong too. I've search and have not been able to find an example of such a thing.
Has anyone ever seen such a thing?

Probably a glass holder. They were popular back in the day as a bathroom accessory along with wall mounted toothbrush holders and soap dishes.

Used to be pretty common. Typically they were soap dishes or cup holders. Soap dishes usually had rounded bottoms, so yours is more like a cup holder.
The cup holders often had toothbrush racks underneath.
As a shaving soap holder, it would be nearly impossible to clean without removing it, and would be very close to a wall for swirling a brush around in.

They were useful back when tiny wall-mounted, castiron, enameled sinks were common.
