This is the razor of my girlfriend's grandmother's cousin's husband:

I find it rather interesting and quite cool looking.

Does anyone know anything about this razor? Especially time of manufacture.

I will give it a spin tomorrow morning.

Lol - I was thinking about exactly that movie when reading though my own post after posting it.

I took it for a spin this morning. It shaves much like a Progress on 2.5/3 - though a bit lighter.

Some of them have D.R.G.M. on the baseplate of the head and then these are made before 1945. Some of them do not have D.R.G.M. on the head and they are probably made after WWII, but I'm not sure. These heads came with different handles, some of them have a short screwing like the current Merkur 15 c for example others like yours have the long screwing. Merkur changed the design of the handle from time to time, so that are many variations out there that no one can say how many variations have been made. I haven't seen this style of handle on this razor yet, for example.

Btw. the early Merkur Progress had the same bakelite baseplate and a adjustment knob that looked quite like the one that you see on the current Progress.

Thank you for the info gentlemen.

From the info provided by Oel this razor must be a post WWII example.

Here are a few pictures of mine. On the 3rd picture you can see the beautiful ivory bakelite box too.

What a beautiful Progress and looks great with the bakelite base plate. If it was made during the war there was probably a shortage of metal. Fantastic

Very nice! I have not seen anything quite like that in my searches. Merkurs are what I started out with, it's always nice to see good examples of them.

I wanted to ask for help in further identifying this recent find. I've taken three pictures, the third of which has a changed color. It is very similar to the Merkur shown by Jakob (Jeep) at the start of this thread. Info provided by Oel and others make me think this a pre WWII model because of the D.R.G.M. on the baseplate. I am attempting to traslate the German web site suggested by Bob. What does D.R.G.M. stand for.
Thank you, David.
