Vintage Birthday Shave

Happy Birthday me. 57 years young today.

Found a nice birth-quarter, B-2 Q256, Gillette Super Speed flair-tip on the bay last week and couldn't resist. So I coupled my first-time use of that bad boy with a mid-70s Wilkinson Stainless which belonged to my father-in-law (godbless) and finished it off with a splash of vintage ZIZANIE Apres Shave, circa 1969 and a gift from my mother--my first after shave splash.

A vintage man today in more ways than one...

Oh yeah, forgot, I'll be sporting Dad's 1962 Tissot Militar today as well to keep the theme.

Happy Birthday, RS. Sounds like things are going very well, so far.

How long has that aftershave been open? Since '69? I didn't realize cologne/aftershave/etc would keep for that long. I never bought big bottles of any fragrance because I always assumed they would go bad after a while, if opened.

LOL, but the answer is yes, with just that little plastic stopper, and I will tell you you can smell the scent by sniffing the top without opening it. So something's getting out, but it still applies very well and smells great. This was a way-back-in-the-closet-in-an-old-box find.

They sell that same 40+ year-old ZIZANIE after shave one the bay for $50! (They only make the cologne now.) And I bought an NOS bottle on Etsy the other day for $25. I love it!

Thanks. Maybe I can start buying larger sizes in the future.

George, Curlingfly,

That's a vintage-sized gold-plated affair and I wear it 15-20X a year. Keeps great time.

Best I can remember Dad got it from my grandmother who bought it during a Bermuda cruise in '62/'63. I have no recollection of ever seeing him without that watch on. When he passed in '08, I grabbed it; the plating on the arm side of the casing was in poor shape and there was real corrosion on one lug. I found a guy (another forum...) who did vintage watch restorations as a hobby and the result is above. He was terrific and I hope it lasts another 50 years...

Happy Birthday Ron! No matter how many razors I try out the flare tip super speed is one I always come back to when I want a guaranteed smooth, easy shave.

Thanks again guys, really appreciate it!

Sariento, I do LIKE that barbers brush up there. Building one up with new hair is going on the short list...

BTW, thanks too to the B&B guy who send me a nice birthday email from the do-not-reply address; ya fooled me, but I appreciate the sentiment!
