Very slight Cobra Modification

I'm not sure what a Cobra is... so I'll stick this post here thinking it is arguably a Feather blade holder with the handle misplaced.

Turtle and Bluebriz were talking about their Cobras in another thread and I decided to find one... and, as usual, someone was more than happy to fulfill my acquisition disorder.

My first shave was fine but I, like many others, was confused about the handle design. The angle could be figured out but the handle just didn't make sense (to me). The front with the knurling was fine, the back with the ultra smooth surface was a hazard in my hands. It was annoyingly slippery. So... never one to let a good design go unpunished, I decided to modify it just a little.

I used some non-skid tape - similar to what the gun/pistol owners use for Glocks and such - and put it on the back. Now, at least, it has grip. The tape works fine - I used it on another razor - a 'Western Kami' that had a really slippery handle. It fixed it perfectly. The tape is waterproof but can be removed/replaced. FWIW - I have some on a Glock that I have used for several years and it hasn't had to be replaced so I think it should last a while.

Looks nice!

That is a mutant of a razor though, ain't it?

It certainly is. Feels strange - I'm on my fourth shave with it so I'm figuring it out a bit. It is damned quick and somewhat aggressive like a Feather AC/clone/R41 but the guard rail seems to keep me out of trouble. I can do quick swipes with it (it has taken me four shaves to get the balls to do that). I'm in a motel in East Egypt (or maybe Kathmandu... not sure) and decided to shave and get out quickly. Wow... very quick and no blood. I like it. No Mojo (to me) but a very nice and fast shave. Has a spot in the lineup - especially for travel.

Glad you are starting to enjoy it. I will be on shave 5 with the Dorco today. Yesterday's shave (#4) was the same smooth/close/sharp shave as shave 1 was.

I wish they would redesign it with a more ergonomic handle. I think looks won out over function but it is not an awful handle design. Could be a LOT better though.

It is not as "sexy" as my straights but the shave is just as close and as you say it is a LOT quicker.

Does this use feather DE or AC blades?

Yes it uses the Feather AC pro or Kia pro blades (disposable straight blades)

I'm on about my fiftth shave but made the mistake of starting with the Pro Super blades - much too aggressive for a beginner with this particular razor. I've since tried the Proguard - very impressed - and today with a Light - not so impressed. Tomorrow is lined up for the standard Pro blade which I'm hoping is the best one.

To the OP - I did initially have problems with the grip but am now used to it - there's no way I would cover such a beautiful design to make it look like a skateboard.
