Vegetable oil as a lubricant.

My lady discovered a way to lubricate some household items using vegetable oil. I used this method on my '34 Aristocrat when I did my recent repair job to it. It seems to work great!! However, I am wondering if vegetable oil will damage the gold plating on this or any of my gold plated razors? Has anyone used this stuff? Please advise, and thanks in advance.

Vegetable oil seems harmless on gold, but then again, vegetable oil is the last thing that comes to mind when working with gold-plated objects of any kind.

Vegetable oil will congeal over time and cause a build up. i would not recommend it. Use a very light machine oil for clippers or such. Good luck.

The reason I lubricated the razor was because when I actuated the TTO knob, it was hard to turn even before I recrimped the indentation that holds the TTO knob/shaft in place. I'm certain this was because the inside of the barrel that housed the TTO shaft was dirty and full of soap residue. I tried to clean the inside of the barrel with dish soap, but it was still tight. Therefore I lubricated it with what was at hand, made my repair, and carried on. The razor now works as it should.
