What's new

Variety is the spice of life.

until it gets out of hand.

How many soaps and creams do you presently have?

Having way too many soaps I have yet to try, this morning I decided to sacrifice a new puck of Momma Bear's Oak Moss & Lavender to duty as a bathing soap. At the last second I grabbed a boar brush as I entered the shower to see how well MB's soap lathers(I've never use MB). Unfortunately, the MB soap created a wonderful lather, so it has been pulled from shower duty.

I then decided to count my software which was a big mistake. I could shave an entire month and not use the same product twice. On the plus side, I cannot say the same about brushes or razors...yet.:cursing:

In no particular order of preference:

1. New Williams puck, used 4 times (this is my go to soap)
2. VDH Deluxe puck, used 21 times (I find it boring to use for some reason, but it's good soap)
3. Mama Bears Bay Rhum from a pif, I've used it a half dozen times (I like it, should use it more)
4. VDH Luxury, uponened until I finish something
5. Proraso in green tub, got it in a trade 90% full, used once (I love it, could supplant Williams as my go to)
6. Walters shave soap (vintage Williams formula knock off), used about 10 times (I like it, should use it more)
7. One Mike's sample and one Prairie Creations sample, unused.

I actually prefer using the same soap most days. You know what to expect, and how it performs. And if your shave is different than other days, at least it's not the soap.

Variety is nice, but I like a solid basis as well. My soaps currently are Palmolive (the stick), and Vergulde Hand (also the stick). My current preference is for the Vergulde Hand.

I have about a dozen on hand, if you count multiple scents of the same stuff. I've got 4-5 I use pretty regularly, but lately, I've found one that I prefer to pretty much all else, which may complicate things.

Having so many different soaps or creams would not appeal to me at all! But that's just me :001_smile

I get that it is not practical to have so much product. But right now I'm having a lot of fun trying everything and figuring out which ones are my favorite. Eventually I will thin the herd down to only my favorites. So for the time being, I'm with the OP: Variety is the spice of life!

Last April (2012), I decided to switch to a weekly rotation. It's now been almost 15 months, and I still haven't hit the end of that rotation.

I have 8 right now and 2 creams. I'm not buying any new ones for a while. Gotta thin the herd then once I hit 4 I might buy another one. It'll be a while though

Not including samples I believe I currently have about 17 soaps and creams. Including samples it's probably close to 50. Still so many more to try.

Woo! This thread again! Channeling my inner Sesame Street Count for this one...

1) Proraso green tub
2) Proraso white tub
3) DRH Marlborough soap
4,5) Mystic Waters Adirondack Jack (x2)
6) Mystic Waters Irish Traveler
7) Cella
8) Mike's Barbershop
9) Mike's Lilly of the Valley
10) Speick stick
11, 12) Arko stick (x2)
13) Pre de Provence cream
14) Pacific Shaving Co. cream
15-17) Al's Shaving cream samples (3.5 left)
18) Mystic Waters Wild Lavender sample
19) Mike's Orange, Cedarwood, Black Pepper sample

19! Nineteen different soaps and creams! Wah 'ah 'ah 'ah...

I could shave every day for 3 months and not repeat the same product!

I'm in the same boat, but I try not to actually do a count, hiding the sealed products away in the closet.

Different things for different folks :wink2:

It doesn't appeal to me either, but I "need" to give that new soap a try and why pay for freight so I fill up the dang cart.

Yes, I can't wait to figure out exactly which products are my favorites. The problem is that unless I already eliminated it from my rotation, the product I am using for that shave is my favorite.

After trying loads of soaps last year, i had narrowed my favourite soaps down to:-

1) MWF
2) Lea Stick (x9)
3) VITOS Super Extra Coconut

then these to use up and not replace.

4) Proraso Menthol (x2)
5) Valabro stick
6) TOBS Jermyn St.
7) Palmolive Stick (it's rude not to have one of these)

On the way home from work tonight i visited D R Harris and picked up a couple of pucks.

8) DRH Almond Soap
9) DRH Windsor Soap

I used the Almond tonight and it is very nice, i might sell off a couple of my not to be replaced soaps now at some point.

I have about 15 and unfortunately there are a bunch more I want to try. I may wait until I finish some off before I make another order.

I have one full puck of soap (QCS Iced Key Lime) plus a handful of samples. I plan on buying 2 more pucks for a little variety, but that's where it ends. I don't like having a ton of stuff.

21 soaps and eight creams.... Not sure how that happened. It doesn't seem quite so bad however as I know that is less than half the number of razors I have floating about. I have been looking at cabinets to store everything.

Hi, my name is Ollie and I may have a problem......

Personally, I am not interested in buying a bunch of different soaps, creams, and brushes. I would rather have many razors for the collection, and use the scented products that work for me.

Today I just bought a tub of Ocean Kelp cream from the Art of Shaving, and will be ordering some Edwin Jagger Lime & Pomegranate from Above the Tie.

I currently have 4 soaps that I really like in rotation and intend to keep at that way, well, maybe 5 at most. When I want to try another soap my plan is to use one up before buying the new one. I used to have only one soap but eventually wanted to have variety and ended up with these, I'm happy with my setup but things could always change.
