This has largely been my experience as well. Politics certainly plays a part in this but the Service has had problems for decades and it involves politicians AND the employees an associated unions. Working for a govt. entity has taught me much about both sides. Any large company has issues. Let's take UPS/Amazon delivery. Their Prime systems has been great. My personal parcels and associated dealings with them have been less stellar than the Service.

There are exception but normally I get decent service from the USPS. My one exception was when I shipped a razor to the U.K. It went from St. Petersburg to Tampa to Miami and sat in Miami for three weeks before it left for the U.K. I could never find out why this happened.

I just Googled mail delivery times from FL to CO and got a table listing every State in alphabetical order, someone spent some time on that. Problem is it takes 2-7 days for mail delivery from FL to every State in the Country including their neighboring States and Hawaii! Now with schedules like that how could anyone doubt their competence.
