Ups and Downs of DE Shaving

I picked up a tub of AOS Ocean Kelp on Saturday. I really liked the scent and the demo at AOS was pretty impressive, how quickly it lathered up and with so little product. Anyway, I opened it up on Sunday, made a large bowl of thick, slick, lathery cream with a pea sized amount. (I really like this stuff!) Brushed it on my face and completed a 3 pass shave (EJ DE89/feather) with a few touchups. Still had enough for my wife to shave the back of my neck also. It was the best shave I've had to date. My face was smooth in all directions and I didn't have any burn or weepers. Monday, I decided to see how much better my birthyear Slim with a feather was going to do. I set it to 5 and proceeded to get an OK shave. More touchups and still had some rough areas, plus some burn, but no weepers. I wouldnt be denied, so this morning, I discarded the feather, put in a new Astra, and dialed the Slim down to 6. More agressive, better shave, but did get one weeper on my neck. Still not as smooth, close or comfortable as the EJ, but I'll keep at it. Once I get the Slim down, I'll work out the Super Speed. This journey has been a lot of fun, especially getting the 'grail shave' in a short timeframe. I'm hoping to find the right combination with all my razors, so I can use them interchangeably, but the Slim is being a bit difficult right now. I don't thing it got along well with the feather, better with the Astra, and still have Derby's and Wilkensen's to try. Never thought I'd enjoy shaving or put any amount of effort into it, but now I'm relatively obsessed with getting a good shave and look forward to each one.

The more you shave the easier and better it becomes.

Going on 50 years of shaving for me and I can get BBS close with anything I pick up
