Update on me using my new Moss Scuttle

Just had my first shave using my new "Moss Scuttle" and all i can say is i am highly impressed. It keeps the lather on the brush and in the bowl really nice and warm (i lathered up in the bowl).I was using a Merkur Barberspole silvertip brush and TH ultimate comfort shave cream and pre-shave oil, along with a 38c razor with a Derby blade.
Great shave will definitley be using my scuttle as much as possible,it,s a great way to treat and pamper yourself. Some may find using a scuttle unecessary and excessive but i'm glad i got one and think a scuttle is a great addition to any shave kit and routine.

I couldn't agree more. I think warm lather from a scuttle really adds to the enjoyment of the shave.

I've been using a scuttle for months now and find it really adds to the enjoyment of the shave. Is it absolutely necessary? Of course not, but its sure worth having. :thumbup1:

For some reason last night, my dorm ran out of hot water while I was taking a shower. Still filled up my brush scuttle out of habit...It wasn't totally useless, it makes a nice stable base to put the brush. Cold lather from a scuttle is sad though

Time for some scuttle AD then maybe?:001_smile

You're the second person today to try and feed scuttle AD! It's working too! Need something that can hold a 24-26mm knot, not sure the DB brush scuttle can handle it
Ask them to make a custom there was a thread yesterday with a custom made scuttle from DB:001_smile

Time for a hot pot maybe?

Sorry for the threadjack....

I have one, but it was late and I just needed to finish shaving before I went to bed haha.

Do you use the hot pot often? I am debating getting one but I really don't need one more thing on the counter, or under the sink to dig out. How much of a difference do you think it makes vs regular hot tap water?

Well, honestly I don't use it for the scuttle anymore. I never really could find a sweet spot and would always nuke my lather. I'd rather have only lukewarm lather from the tapwater (which doesn't get hot enough on the top floor of my building) than have lather that's useless to anyone. I do use it for tea/coffee/hot chocolate multiple times daily. I'm going to try and get some hot lather tonight though. Actually I could do it now I guess. Just try out different amounts of hotpot water and tap water.

Edit: After a half hour, the scuttle is still too hot to use to keep lather in. I think I'll try a half pot of boiling water tonight and see where that goes.

Edit#2: After 45 minutes, it is starting to cool down quickly. Seems the ticket is to shoot for that 15-20 minute area when the lather is cool enough to use without being dehydrated or burnt.

I use a hot pot everyday to fill my (ghetto) scuttle. Between wanting to keep the utility bills down and now the fact that I have two small kids, I have the water heater turned down fairly low. Nice to have hotter water for the scuttle.

maybe one of those little electric coffee pots (the one or two servings)? Heat water up that way? Hey, I just gave myself an awesome idea!

you can get a really nice sunbeam hot water dispenser for $18 before shipping, from amazon.com... I have a G5 scuttle and found that when the water is tooooo hot it affects the shaving cream, so I just use hot tap water..

That was a concern for me. I really like hot lather but I don't know what the trade off is going to be. I would rather have warm lather, which is what I have now, then have hot lather but have the shave quality suffer because of it.
