Unusual No. 88 Variant?

So some might have seen my No. 88 I posted a thread about a few weeks ago. (I am in love with it!)

But since then I have come to notice something unusual. At least I believe it is unusual...

It all started when I saw this No. 88 on the bay. I noticed it had the Gillette diamond logo stamped on the handle near the head. So I went onto Mr-Razor and looked at Achim's 77's and 88's and found that his all have the logo stamp on the handle.

I didn't remember seeing it on mine so I went and looked and it is nowhere to be found. I was wondering if anyone has seen this before or has a No. 77 or 88 that is sans stamp?

Here are some picture of the razors with the stamp.

And here is my No. 88.

I think the only logical conclusion we can draw from this is that my 88 is a super rare variant worth millions of dollars! I'm sure you all will agree...

I don't think it's entirely unusual. I'll need to check my own No. 77/88s when I get home later tonight, but I'm pretty sure I've got some with the diamond and some without, and I know I've seen others here on the boards.

During the '40s, particularly in England, Gillette started to de-emphasize the diamond logo on their products and in their advertizing. Your insert card there in the lid tells me that yours was a later set than either of Achim's two, after the switch from the green-and-yellow packaging to the blue-and-white. So it's probably something that they just stopped bothering with on the handles over time, and yours is from after that point.

Lol, shucks... I guess its not worth millions of dollars...

Thank you MacDaddy for the info.

I just bought an 88 and I'm awaiting its delivery. The head and gap looks like it resembles a Rotbart Mond Extra, which is one of my favorite shavers. Can one of y'all owners tell me how it shaves?

For me it was not aggressive enough, and i do like aggressive razors. It was similar to a NEW type razor shave, maybe a bit more bite.

Well, let bump this one!:wink2:
My cased 88 has the diamondstamp on the upper part. Maybe not that unusual at all! :wink2:

BUMP for a really nice 88 display and great pictures! Mine is just a replate, but is a fine shaver and my only vintage.
