Unrefined Shae Butter (Are you a believer?

Well I've been wet shaving for a number of months how. I'm a full time student of the wet shaving world. Anything that works, I'll give it a try. Actually that is pretty much how I live my life because we all know that misery loves company and I avoid that like the plague. I'm here to pass along my feedback about Unrefined Shae Butter. I believe it was Celestino that PM'd me with some thoughts and ideas to try.

To date......I'm litterly on Day One and I'm already a believer. I picked up some from our local coop. Yes I scooped it out of a bin and weighed it. I found some a couple bucks cheaper online, but couldn't quite verify the source. I also bought some Eucalyptus Essential Oil (EO) to blend with it. Here is how much I've started with:

- 4 oz of Shae Butter (SB)
- 2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 15 drops of Eucalyptus EO

I kept it very very simple because I didn't want to jeopardize the SB. To blend together, I 'warmed' up the SB. I 'did not' melt the SB. Added the olive oil and Eucalyptus EO. 5-7 minutes later on medium speed I was done.

After my 3 pass shave this morning, I splashed on some witch hazel and followed that up with the SB. After 5-10 minutes nearly all the SB had absorbed and my first thought was.......'wow my face feels nice!' My next batch I'm going to incorporate a little more Eucalyptus Essential Oil along with some After Shave.

Definetely put this on your list of things to try. Obviously YMMV, but I certainly wouldn't overlook it.

Yes indeed ... I am a happy convert to the world of unrefined shea butter.

I have to thank Celestino for showing me the way as well!

I´ve been a believer for years. During the long norwegian winters, dry skin is a common problem.

I use the following recipe with great results:

100g unrefined shea butter
50g unrefined virgin coconut oil
30g pure beeswax
---
10ml pure cold pressed jojoba oil
10ml pure cold pressed avocado oil
5ml pure cereal germ oil (vitamin E)

Shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax is melted in a double boiler. When completely liquified, jojoba, avocado and vitamin E oil are stirred in. The mix is then whipped for 5-10 minutes, then left to cool for 30 minutes (in room temperature) , and then whipped for another 5-10 minutes. This is continued until the mix has cooled, trippeled in volume and have a creamy white consistence. Great natural moisturizer that works better than anything I´ve ever tried. SWMBO and kids use it as well. Shelf life: About 12 months.

Along with brother Ravi, thanks to Celestino, I too am a convert to USB,

Before I used Nivea Sensitive Aftershave balm and C.O. Bigelow's discontinued Barber Aftershave balm. Both balms were very good, but don't compare to USB.

Today my present regime is:

Cold Water splash
Aftershave Splash (Usually Clubman VI Bay Rum)
Light coating of USB massaged into my face.

I just started using it as a pre shave. It seems to protect my neck. I never thought to mix it with anything. I'll have to try that out.

I use Unrefined Shea Butter of the East African variety after shaving each day...Everyone I introduce to this product begins to use it regularly as a hand softener, etc. Check that famous auction site for many varieties, as well as many natural product/organic sites.

Do you mean Ebay?

I've started using it. It has helped with my eczema a bit. It also seems to be one of the only moisturizers that doesn't give me pimples. Not a big fan of the smell, but I'm getting used to it.

I been using unrefined shea butter after a recommendation from my Ghanaian friend. Its all I use as a post shave now. I've cut it up into very small pieces and add to a small plastic container and have it float in the hot water in my sink (or bath) as I shave. The scent takes getting used to (smells like rope twine) but once its absorbed the sent is gone. It's absorbed totally in the skin after about 20mins.
All winter, I've cycled to work and my skin is still in excellent condition and no dryness.
You can buy it on Amazon.

Wonderful stuff. Have had to actually cut back on how often I use due to it's surprising moisturizing properties, but no real complaints here

I have to thank Celestino also - for I knew about this after reading his post a while back. I love "USB" as both pre and post shave. Recently picked a whopping 5 lbs from ebay. Effect of RAD

Note: USB for a 'preshave' will require you to sanitize and clean your razor more often. I'm using a Fatboy I picked up a couple months ago and I notice the doors have a little USB residue on them after each shave. That isn't a problem thought because I love having bright clean equipment.

Agreed on the smell. It does have a nutty or earthy smell to it. 15 drops of Eucalyptus EO into 4oz of USB hasn't really altered the smell. Next batch I'm bumping that up to 20 or 25 drops and making adjustments from there.

@ Cobre - You'll love it! Lol only use a little. It has major mileage.
