What's the viscosity like?

First impressions were that it's olive oil, but obviously it'd be a lot thicker than fragrance.

How are you planning to get that cork out to test?

Looks Spanish to me with the "de la" on the label. Can you make out any other words other than what looks like "Marcel.R." and "Reg. No.98"?

The red cloth and the string around the neck seem coarse for a scent. But I do not see anything on the label that looks like the Spanish word for olive or oil.

How large is this bottle?

Have you opened it? You could probably run a hypodermic needle through the cork and draw out a small sample.

Do you know anything about the provenance of this item at all?

Fun stuff.

Did find that "Marcal R" was a unit of measure in the Madras Presidency. Citation too long to include; google it if interested. Economy include dye products.

Timmy Dee, what is the chance that that is a bottle of feni (fenny)? That area is closer to you than me.

Robert, is that bottle big enough to be for booze?

Someone above asked about getting the cork out. If it's close to wine bottle size an ah so opener (Google it if you dontknow what that is) works the trick with old brittle corks

ok so here are a few more pictures. i cant get a better picture right now with my camera cuz i dont have a great light set up or a magnify lens for the camera.
it looks like it says:
bottom half: "DE LA IRSA or IASA" "M??LL?E"
top half: "MINI(G?)TII" "R??"

inside it looks like:
top half: "BILN" OR "BILM" it looks more like "BI(upside down T) then a N or M"
black print inside: "R.D.S.P." "la" or "ha" 5103

the bottle is small, less than 3" tall. i would say the diameter is about 2"-2.5" the size is what made me think cologne or perfume.

as far as viscosity, its not olive oil. i would say vinegar is a possibility but i wont know until i get a sample of whats in there. my wife has needles since she is going through nursing school right now so thats pretty convenient. would poking a needle through the cork mess with the seal? idk how the have been storing it. i know with wine bottles they are stored on their side to keep the cork from drying out. my question is, depending on how dry the cork is, would poking a hole through it make it not seal back up the way it is now?

on a side note, u guys are awesome. what would i do without the B&B community :thumbup1:

Is it an Indian on the label?
it does looks like an indian now that u mention it. i couldnt figure out what it was at all. since i didnt know, it just looked like a bunch of colors running together.

Is there any possibility that says "MINIATURE"?

or perhaps "No 5103"?

miniature.... that makes sense over what i wrote.

yes! I think this is a step in the right direction.

also noted that the image looks like a person with a falcon perched on the arm but that hasn't helped me track anything new

+1 also, after taking in ever comments it seems to be an indian kneeling, making an offer to something. its hard to tell but it looks like it could be a pot or its like u said, a falcon.

Okay, beginning to see the indian (Aztec?) kneeling with a falcon (eagle?) on his arm. And beginning to see an eagle head mask on the face of the indian. Aztec eagle warrior? Or am I getting too much into this again?!? Still doesn't nail down what this bottle may be.
