TTO Tech vs Super Speed

Hi, gents,

I want to get a TTO Tech through EBay because I don't have one, and I just realized that the DE TTOs that I'm looking at that are ID'd only as Gillettes could be either Techs or Super Speeds, for all I know. I already have a Super Speed. How can I tell the difference using the photos? The sellers won't know or they'd have said.

Thanks!

Hi! Welcome to B&B. I think you may be confusing your razors a bit. The Tech is a three piece razor ... not a TTO. Unless, of course, you are referring to the forerunner of the Super Speed known as the Ranger Tech. The Ranger Techs were TTO's which look very similar to the 40's style Super Speed except for a smooth band on the handle just above the TTO. They were made in 1941 and 1946.

Here is a picture of the 60's style Super Speed and a standard three piece ball tip Tech.

Well, well, thanks, Guido. I read a reference in this forum to a TTO Tech (can't remember where and may have misunderstood) and saw the TTO/Tech model in the Date and Feature Guide from 1939 on and thought it was one model.

Ehhh...looks like I'm about to win another Super Speed. But the one I bid on has a neck like a Tech rather than the stouter tubes I've seen on Super Speeds. How did the Ranger differ from the Super Speed?

To me the Ranger Tech shaves pretty much the same as a 40's SS. Based upon the short two year production they are more rare.

Y'all are making me nauseous. I'm simply way too anal when it comes to certain subjects I get attached to. But, I do appreciate the words.

Smooth band and the lack of end caps on the silo lifting arms.

Since I've been a member of the B&B family Asylum Guido always amaze me with the information he possesses or the pictures he posts, or the items in his collection.

As everyone says his post are always informative.

I've also had reason to email him a couple of times as well, and rather than a stuck up "expert" he's been more than willing to answer silly newbie questions :001_smile

Something you don't always get with the "gurus"

There's a couple of other members as well, but I won't blow their trumpet in this "stroke AsylumGuido's ego" post :001_smile

P.S. Asylum There's still a couple of Boags or Cascades down here in Tassie with your name on them :w00t:

I'll guarantee you if/when I make it down there I will take you up on it. I am a sucker for a good stout.

Close. The 1941 was without end caps and the 1946 had end caps. That's how you can tell the two apart.

I've never seen a '46 Ranger. The hunt is on now though. I thought the production was halted in '41 and the Ranger was reintroduced in Superspeed trim. Good to know.

Now I've learned something. This guy is good.
