Trying to find a new razor

OK folks I need some help. I have been wet shaving since January with a Merkur Futur, I am now looking to get another razor. I have looked at the Merkur 34c, Edwin Jagger 89 and glanced at Dreadnougt Spartan. Yes I know that the Spartan is the EJ 89 re-run, but it is such a cool looking razor. I wanted to get some input from the B&B community to get your thoughts. I really "need" to get another razor, but I just can not make up my mind.

The EJ is a great razor for me- started with that one then I too "needed" another. Merkur 39C is another of my favorites. Alas, I then needed another.......and so it goes.

I'm going to recommend the one that I've never tried (technically). The Dreadnought Spartan. I've never seen it until I googled the image a minute ago.... but if it's true that it's basically a rebranded Edwin Jagger DE89..... and judging by the photos of it I'd say it is..... I don't think you could go wrong with it. Number one, the EJ DE89 is a great razor. Number two, you think that the Dreadnought Spartan looks great. Then get it. It's all about what works for you and what you like.

I would go for something that is two degrees away from what you have now, a vintage open comb. The Gillette NEW is amazing and they're so easy to find. Still my favorite DE razor.

Something like the EJ or a Muhle R89 is a smooth, easy shaver that everyone should have in their collection, or at least should have tried. However, I also say challenge yourself a bit and get an open comb of some sort. The Gillette NEW is one of the best razors Gillette made, in my opinion. They shave wonderfully and they are inexpensive to try.

So many razors, so little time. Good luck with your next razor. Ultimately you have to get something that appeals to your senses.

I agree vintage Gillette is the way to go since you already have a modern DE. The open comb Gillette New is a great razor and so are any of the Super Speeds if you would like a TTO instead of a 3 piece razor.

I would suggest the Merkur 34C for a secure handle and good balance. It produces better results for me than the EJ89.

I might be in minority but I find the DE89 head terrible. It is very aggressive on the skin comparing to what it actually removes. My R89 is going to get sold at some point.

Thanks to all of B&B for the information. Being rather new to the wet shaving community I am not sure where exactly to look for vintage razors. I went to Amazon, but I am having a hard time finding anything. Any suggestions?

I own about a dozen DE's, Fatboy's, several Merkur's, Flare Tips, etc. Since I picked up a Merkur 39c Barberpole Slant, it is the only DE razor that has been used!
