Tried Many Blades and found the ultimate

I am a relative new DE shaver, but have tried many highly rated blades, Feathers, Yellow/Green Gillette, Astra, Derby,etc... I found one blade that is absolutely perfect for me, As sharp as I need and ultra smooth ... It is very difficult to nick myself with it... it is the Israeli Red, Personna blade. It is 10-20 cents a blade. West Coast has 10 packs for 2 bucks, but they are backordered on 100 packs. When they come in (Alert will be emailed me) I will order 100 and hope they never stop being produced.

In my top 3. Not quite as good to my face ( or razors maybe ) as Astra SPs and Iridiums ( Astras are smooth as silk, and the Iridiums can trim a steel wire brush ). The price of the red IPs though keep them high on the list ( especially versus the Iridiums )

My only knock on the Red IPs is I feel like I have to do a bit more touching up with them, but the shaves are very very smooth. As pointed out, the price makes them very agreeable.

Welcome to B&B! It's good to hear you've found "The Blade".:thumbup1: I found the Red IPs to be decent, but not a showstopper of a blade. As all things blade related, YMMV has definitely come into play!

Do give a try to the Israeli Blues. They're not the same as the Red Packs but I can get six great shaves from one piece in all six of my axes. The Reds are very good; personal druthers is for the Blues and the U.S. Personnas as well.

You might try a tuck of any of the Vidyut brands. Quite inexpensive and still nice and sharp. There appears to be a small, growing core of fans for these.

The Petersburg Products blades are also popular. What's nice is that each brand is actually different from its stablemates; no simple repackaging going on there as seems to be the case with some of the Lord products. And the Lord Sharks are a good value for a comfortable shave.

Welcome! Join the madness and let us all know how it's going with your trip through DE World!

Dave, Thanks so much, I just ordered 100 from Blue Goose at 13.50 plus shipping right after I saw your post. Now,I am good with blades through most of 2011. I use a Merkur 34C and the combo with the Israeli Red is outstanding. Funny thing about this DE trip is that, Now that I have settled on my blade, razor, and soap (Proraso is good but Konks does me just as well, have some Creamo cream that I like to use for a final buff to get things baby butt) perhaps I can start benefiting economically from the low cost of DE shaving. It was the Gillette Fusions price that put me over the edge. I somehow ran into a site on the internet (Don't remember which one) and began the journey.
Be well,
Gary

+1 The IP blues are my #1, even more so than Feathers :thumbup1:

Who'da thunk having the Blues would be delightful?

Now that the big pink bunny is taking over the biz, I hope he doesn't mess with the factories in VA and Israel. They've been producing popular stuff for a good long while now; let us hope he leaves well enough alone. If he doesn't, the orders will fall off and then the money spent on ASR will go down the tubes.

I'm brand-loyal, but ASR is not the only game in town, right?

Just discovered the Red Personas in my multi-pack. Happy Times. You are right about it being difficult to nick yourself. They are like "friendly" feathers.

I agree, those are my three favorites, and for the same reasons. And, yes, I have to touch up a bit with both the Reds and the Medical Personnas. I need one extra pass with the Astras, but they are so smooth that I don't scrape myself with them.

At first I made a choice partly because of the price difference - but since I get 3 good shaves out of each of the three, then I use 10 blades a month. The Iridiums are about 20 cents more apiece than the Reds, so I can have my favorite blade for $2/month. It's worth it. I won't feel deprived if all I have left is IP Reds or Astras, though. :biggrin1:

The Red IPs have become my favorite as well. After trying Feathers, Astras, Iridiums, Derbys, and Yellow Gillettes I thought my favorite was the yellow Gillettes. Seemed as sharp as the Feathers but smoother. But I realized I was only really getting a good shave on the third and fourth shave. Too much irritation on the first two.

What I needed was a blade that started out like a yellow Gillettes after two shaves. So I tried the Red IP's and that's exactly what I got. I'm now getting irritation-free shaves. Only downside to this blade is I only get two really good shaves out of it. On the third I can really feel it getting duller. But unlike most guys I have to shave the back of my neck for every shave.
