I have liked the Permasharps I’ve tried (maybe two tucks over the years) but never paid much attention to them. I have about 400-ish of the blacks left, and 400 Nacets inbound, maybe a couple hundred vintage Schick and Gillette Spoilers, and 100 GSBs.

I may buy a few hundred Permasharps, I have a tuck to run through to evaluate. But I note most Nacet folks also like the Permasharps, so I’m guessing they are fairly comparable.

There is a new player now. Matt from Razor Emporium has said over the years that he designed his razors around Perma-Sharp blades since he liked the blades and wanted a consistent standard. A week ago he launched his own brand of blades which I assume are very similar. Made in the Czech Republic. Yeah, I know. Just when we thought he had it figured out, something new comes out 😐

I need to watch that for a couple years and have a ton of folks here I trust shave with it first. I'm too old to try out new blade brands.

Like many here I went nuts when I joined the forum 13 years ago, voraciously collecting razors, blades, brushes, lather products, etcetera. After a couple years, I found my groove and shaving became, well, just shaving. A daily chore. After many trials I found my best shave was a Merkur 34C, Gillette 7 O'Clock Black (India) blade, and either original tallow Tabac or Cella red using a couple favorite badger or boar brushes. Followed with Thayer's WH then Pinaud Clubman A/S splash. Very boringly, I did that for several years.

Now, I've discovered the Henson AL13++ and am really enjoying shaving again, and back to playing with soaps, creams, and blades. One thing that has always amazed me is the YMMV factor in razor blades. One man's angels singing blade is another man's torture device. One blade that sings in one razor, is awful in another razor for the same shaver. So, I decided I should not just assume my favorite blade will remain my favorite blade in the AL13, so I'm back to buying samplers.

But I just reloaded with 600 Gillette Super Plat blacks from India before I realized it may not turn out to be my favorite in that new razor. But since I had about 300 left from circa 2012, I have a redonkulous number of these blades. You may want to try them but may not want to buy 100 on Amazon to try them, so ...

Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum - Blade #2 - Shave #2

TL;DR -
Ugh!! Another boringly, excellent shave!!

Equipment: Gillette Slim (4), Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum Blade 2 (2), Ach Brito Mogno Soap, DSC T4 Brush

On To The Shave: Like the other shaves that I've had with GBSP Blade #1 and now with GBSP#2, I just keep getting excellent, close, and smooth shaves in the DFS+ range!! I've changed razors and soaps, and it's been one wonderful shave after another!! Not sure how much longer I can hold on before having to load up a Derby Extra to bring me back to reality!!

Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum - Blade #2 - Shave #3

TL;DR -
Yuppers!! Another wonderful shave!! Tried a new, local artisan goat's milk soap!!

Equipment: Gillette Slim (4), Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum Blade 2 (3), Maker's House Homestead Focus Soap

On To The Shave: Other than being a consistently wonderful shave, close, still in the DFS+ range, was that I'm using a new, artisan soap!! It's fair season up here and my daughter found a new soap at a festival she attended...Maker's House Homestead in New Hampshire. The soap base contains goat's milk and the scent is the new barbershop scent, clean with some citrus and other great smells. It whipped up into a very nice and slick lather, providing a great base for the GBSP blade to showcase, yet again, that these are very good blades.

Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum - Blade #2 - Shave #4

TL;DR -
Same setup as yesterday, same smooth, close shave!!

Equipment: Gillette Slim (4), Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum Blade 2 (4), Maker's House Homestead Focus Soap

On To The Shave: Everything was the same as yesterday, with a smooth, close shave in the DFS+ range. I have noticed that because I like milder razors and have kept the Slim on 4, I may have given up some of the efficiency. With the SCS Model A, I did sneak things up to the BBS- range. Still, I can't argue with smooth and close.

Blade #1 - Shave #2

As promised, a 5 day growth shave, which is my standard. Everything standard for me: Longish hydrating shower, Arko lathered up in a bowl with RR synthetic brush, Karve CB with plate C.

This is a very good blade that I find very interesting. One thing I can say for sure about this blade, and that is it is smooth. When it comes to sharpness, I am comparing it to Nacet. I am inclined to think at this point that it is not as sharp, but I am not deciding as I know how mercurial shaves can be. Two shaves is not enough to judge a blade, IMO. Also, as I stated in my first shave review, I always reserve judgment until I get through four shaves.

So on to the actual shave. As smooth as the blade is, it seemed to have a bit more difficulty cutting, especially in the tougher areas like my chin. It's not that it couldn't, like a really lousy or dull blade, it just took more cutting strokes and a bit of buffing. I usually use buffing very sparingly, but I found myself using it noticeably more during today's shave. After all was said and done, I ended up with a shave every bit as good as my usual shaves with Nacets or Perma-Sharps. I did end up with some irritation, especially on my neck, which I never experience with a good Nacet shave. I assumed this was due to the extra strokes with each pass. However, as I sit here writing this about an hour and a half later, I'm finding I don't feel like the raw irritation has lasted. Weird and interesting. I'm going to follow up with a brief after-shave report tomorrow regarding the perceived razor burn. I have found that if I've damaged my skin, I can only accurately assess the damage the next morning. That has gone both ways for me. Sometimes I think everything is fine only to wake the next day with damaged skin that demands I wait extra long til the next shave. Other times I think I've given myself a nasty razor burn, only to find the next morning that everything is fine. This might be a reaction to blade coatings, but who knows? Shaving is part black magic, methinks.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this blade goes in the next two shaves.

Preshave: PAA Mentholated Cube and water misted from a flairisol water bottle
Brush: 24 / 54 mm Shavemac two band silvertip DO1 in Copper Canyon
Soap: Martin de Candre Vetyver face lathered liberally misted with the flairisol mister
Razor: Muehle R89 / 19 gram Alpha Shave Works Super Leggero carbon fiber and titanium matte handle
Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum black pack (1)
Post: PAA Alum, Thayer's Lavender Witch Hazel Toner
Splash: Catie's Bubbles Un Jour Gris
Frag: St Johns Vetiver cologne
9.7 DFS 1 nick that didn't bleed after styptic

First Martin de Candre Monday in some time, and, first Muehle Monday ever unless I have done one with my RV Shavinge STF. I also had my first trial of the Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum from the generous PIF. I am not sure how many times I have used the Alpha Shave Works Super Leggero custom handle. Maybe the second use? I would have to check my journal. I rated this shave a 9.7 because it is not quite close enough to be DFS+ rather than the nick. I am not sure what happened to my Edwin Jagger DE 86. I didn't sell it on B&B. I may still have it somewhere in the Hoard. Maybe it went to Ebay. I can't see what I have sold there apparently. I remember liking my DE86 much better than my Merkur 34C/G. The Merkurs I found too mild for me and yet the Edwin Jagger and now the Muehle are efficient enough for daily or every other day shaves. I am glad that I purchased this razor. I have a few favorites now. Modern I have the aluminum Karve Overlander, the Wolfman WR2 1.25 SB / 19.2 gram @Rosseforp GTB handle, the PAA Artifact as my travel razor, I have a few other moderns, but, I don't rank them as highly as these. My also have many great vintage razors, but, I think I get better shaves with the mentioned above. Back to today's shave, I have noticed the last few times I have used what is left of my Mentholated Cube I don't really notice the menthol anymore. That is kind of a bummer as I liked it quite a bit when it was still frosty. Catie's Bubbles Un Jour Gris is still frosty, but, after using Proraso Green with extra menthol crystals added I find it lacking as well. The scents today were all great. I really like this combination of soap, splash, and, frag. The lather from Martin de Candre was just as good as I remembered it being and while I did dip my brush in my mug of water, I also used the Flairisol mister on lathering every pass. I find this water bottle helps immeasurably on all parts of the shave. With the preshave, with the lather, and on clean up with the alum block both before and after. I don't splash my face anymore. I just use the flairisol.

Blade 1 - Shave 6
Razor - 1964 Gillette Slim (7/5/3)
Blade - Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (6)
Brush - Omega 10777
Soap - Arko
A/S - Nivea Balm

Solid 8/10 DFS
At 6 shaves, this blade has really started to slow down; no weepers or irritation, but I did have to do a little more cleanup than I usually have to do, but it still provided a nice, comfortable shave. These compare very favorably to my preferred Personna Labs and BiC Chrome Platinum. The only thing that will probably keep me from picking some up is going to be the price, but should any of my favorites become unavailable for whatever reason, these will surely be an option.

Blade #1 - Shave #2 - follow up

A quick follow up to post #150. This morning I found I definitely have some minor razor burn. It's not enough to make me wait longer than usual for the next shave, but it's there. It could be that the smoothness of the blade is like a mild razor to me. I end up going over areas too many times. I will try experimenting with angle a bit on the next shave, but will have to watch the buffing and touch-up passes.

Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum - Blade #2 - Shave #5

TL;DR -
Very good shave, needed a little extra buffing, following Blade #1's curve

Equipment: Gillette Slim (4), Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum Blade 2 (5), Maker's House Homestead Focus Soap

On To The Shave: Fifth shave feels like this GBSP blade is turning the corner as I needed a little extra buffing in the usual challenge areas, but still gave me a smooth, close shave in the DFS+ range. This performance is very similar to what I experienced with Blade #1.

Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum - Blade #2 - Shave #6

TL;DR -
Decent shave, DFS, but extra buffing indicates time to bin the blade

Equipment: Gillette Slim (4), Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum Blade 2 (6), Ach Brito Mogno Soap

On To The Shave: Shave #6 is the final shave for Blade #2. Ach Brito is a great soap and provided a slick work surface. Although the GBSP turned in a good performance, DFS range, the extra buffing to reach that indicates that it's time to bin Blade #2. I have no complaints about a blade that gives me 6 good shave.

Acknowledgement: Thank you, @JCinPA, for the opportunity to try these great blades. I'm planning to acquire more and keep them as a regular part of my blade supply.

I had the same experience. Shave #5 was pretty good, but #6 was when I noticed the blade started to fall off considerably and needed a bit more cleanup than usual.

I would concur with the reviewers, the blade goes 5 maybe 6, but since I got my first 900 ten years ago for a dime each, I change them Mondays and Thursdays to avoid counting. At 30 cents a blade, I probably would not reload these, frankly. I'd go with Nacets now.

Not better, just cheaper and I can't distinguish between them. After the seller acknowledge he mis-listed the item I got these for 15 cents per, but I won't be reloading them, I think. Love 'em, though! Glad you all seem to be, as well!

Thanks for the reports back.

I change all of my blades after 4 shaves, except for Feathers after 3 shaves. Earlier I found some blades could go 6 or more but the feeling of a blade that had been used one or more times too many made me change to binning a blade potentially before it was used up. Even a more expensive blade costs less than a few cocktails or beers out over a year.

For me, YMMV, the Feather's best shave is Shave #4. Shaves 1 - 3 are ok, peaks at 4, then drops quickly. I'm typically a mild razor guy so that might contribute to my experience.

Whoa!! 900 at 10 cents, now they're north of 30 cents!! Even though they're getting pricey, I think they're in the same class as KCG blades which are more that these. The quality and consistency are considering factors and I'm impressed with the GBSPs. Nacets and I are not on speaking terms at the moment.

It fascinates me how YMMV blades are between razors and faces. I literally cannot tell Nacets and GBSP (blacks) apart. Give them to me blind in two razors, I think I would not be able to choose correctly.
