What's new

Tried Feather New Hi-Stainless tonight

Color me impressed. Awesome, baby butt smooth shave. But I still don't think I'm ready to spend that kind of money on blades. Yes, it's still much cheaper than cartridges but I get 100 Israeli Personna blades for $20 cheaper than 100 Feather blades and the IPs give me as close to a Feather shave as anything else I've tried. But if you've got the money, count me as another who recommends the Feather New Hi-Stainless blades.

They are real good blades. A bit to harsh for me but ymmv. But keep a eye on ebay have seen some people pick them up for 20 odd dollars for 100

Not surprising you were happy with the Feathers. They are a very good blade and the sharpest current production DE blade that I am aware of today.

Have you checked the Vendor's Corner? There are GREAT deals there. Plus I've been noticing a lot of good deals on W/S/T. I got 70 Feathers for $25 and then, literally later that day, there were about 100 for $30 (I think). Sure, its not the ridiculous deals of other blades, but I have found that Feathers are the best blades for me, so I'll spend the extra $5 or so.

What's the difference in the yellow pack and the black pack? Coating? Sharpness? Yellow pack uses wax/glue spots on their wrappers, does the black pack?

Yellow and Black Feather blades = same exact blades, different quantities (5 and 10) per pack :001_smile.

I was told on this site that the yellow & black pack are the same blade.

I have read that too. Makes you wonder why the black packs are cheaper priced. :glare:

Cheaper price = why I asked. I don't think they are the same. If they were the exact same blade, one would think they would be the same price.

But I can get 100 black pack blades cheaper than 100 yellow pack blades.. has to be something to that.

There are many theories about the difference between one and the other, but most people tend to agree that the blades are the exact same ones in each of the two flavors and that just the quantity varies. Also, there's mention of the black ones being packaged for the Asian market only vs the Yellow ones being packaged for worldwide audiences.

Who knows ??? check these threads out to see what I'm talking about:

What's the difference between Black or Yellow Feather blades

YELLOW FEATHER or BLACK & RED

Almost 24 hours later, I'm still smooth. I just can't justify $35 for 100 versus $15 for 100 IPs.

The OP says that IPs are close enough to Feathers to satisfy him, and that's fine. For anyone else who finds a blade they consider superior to all others, $.20 more a week is not even worth thinking about. Our lives are too short to mistake cheapness for frugality. Gather ye Feathers, while ye may.

It's this type of understandable but uninformed reasoning that the Yellow Pack vendors are benefiting from. Devil24 correctly explains the situation as I understand it after researching my 100 pack of Black Feathers.

Do your black Feathers have the wax/glue spots in the wrapper? I know the yellow Feathers do. It's another reason I like the IPs, no wax/glue on my blades, gumming up my razor.

I tend to get closer shaves with Feathers than the Red IPs. YMMV, of course, and I keep around about 100 of the Red IPs in my strategic reserves. Excellent blades, but I find the extra price for Feathers to be worth it. After all, 100 of them will last a bit over a year for me.

Well, I've just bought 100 Feather blades pack for US$31 on eBay. Not that bad. Moreover, Feather's blade deliveries the higher durability. So, I think it is worth paying the extra cents.
