What's new

Tried a Personna Red for the first time

I had a great shave this morning, but sometimes you get an itch....

Picked up my long unused 53 Blue Tip SuperSpeed, a Personna Red that I had forgotten I'd bought at BullGoose and bam! - a perfect shave (except for the Palmolive that I'm fighting with.
Now I have something to try in between my Russian love affairs.

I love Personna Reds, and I use them in a Blue Tip as well. Astra SPs are close, but I find the Reds more forgiving.

My prediction is that you will never get completely away from them. Personna Reds were the first blade I found that worked well for me no matter what razor I put them in. They are always predictable, forgiving, smooth, all the things you want from a blade. I have other go-to blades now, that last longer, are sharper, and are as smooth, as my Personna Reds, but the Reds are the standard all others are judged against. I will always have Reds in my blade locker. When I load one of them in any razor, I know what will happen. We are haunted by our first loves.

They're also a lot easier to get hold of than the Rapira Platinum Lux.
Will be trying in quite a few more razors - Tech Tuesday here we come....

The reds would be a good match up with the light handled blue tip. Give Feathers a shot in that aluminum handled Gillette. You will be surprised at how smooth a Feather is when it is in a light razor.

I'll try that. I got Feathers at the same time as i got the Reds - tried once in a 40s SS and got a closely shaven scarlet neck.

Feathers are fantastic in a Tech. Should be fine in a blue tip, just remember, no pressure, let it glide with just the weight of the head

Dammit Turtle, stop messing with my head. I was all set to use that Personna Red in a Tech today.........

For my part, the same attributes that make them so appealing to us when we revisit them are exactly the attributes that are helpful to new shavers when they are working on their lather and/or shaving technique. This blade makes the adoption of wet shaving a much easier experience, with better results.

Used it in the FH Tech. Still a good shave but the blue tip seemed better somehow. Maybe a bit more efficient? One more shave in 40s SS then on to a Feather in the Blue Tip per Turtle's instructions.

Feather in the Blue Tip
Was very careful except for going for BBS at the end.
A little irritation but a darn close shave. much better than my last attempt with a Feather.
Thanks turtle for the recommendation!
